Katherine Lochery (CAS’11) gets paid to receive free advice. That’s how she views her job as a caller for the Telefund program, which connects students with alumni on behalf of BU’s Annual Fund. “I’ve learned to listen really well,” says Katherine, a political science major from England (by way of Atlanta, Georgia) who aspires to a profession in women’s advocacy in the developing world. Since joining Telefund last September, she’s learned that communication skills can be her most important tool for accomplishing her goals.

“Telefund puts you in a very active and direct role as a member of the University community, representing BU and increasing awareness about its needs,” says Katherine. The hardest parts of her job are conversations with alumni who might have lost touch with the student perspective. “Not everything is about business, numbers, and money. It’s about people coming to the school to better the world.”
