Dimaapi, Arrianne Zeanna R. AT4C – Buspoli Activity 1 1. What strategies do you think can save newspaper companies from extinction? Despite the fact that less people are using traditional newspapers to be updated on the news today, I believe that newspaper companies are far from extinction if they have the right strategy. One strategy that I could think of is using the Internet to your advantage. People nowadays rely on the Internet because it somehow makes everything instant and easily-accessed, which makes it more convenient. Putting your content online could reach a vast audience. Instead of publishing all the content online, the company could have a limitation on the content like a free online version and in order to have more of the content, people need to buy the next paper which is the traditional or physical one. It is sort of an advertising strategy that could lead to possible subscribers for the traditional newspaper. 2. Aside from newspaper companies, provide a business/industry that is near extinction? What do you suggest they do to prevent this from happening? Today, I have noticed that companies and businesses that produce and sell CDs or compact discs are lesser as time goes by. This is because people rely on digital copies of music or movies and there are a lot of companies that offers such, which results to those in the CD business to have a decline in their sales. I suggest that these companies should collaborate with those from the music and film industry to make physical copies of albums or movies with limited availability because this attracts the fascination of fans of certain artists to collect. 3. Why is it important for all business majors to study strategic management since most students will never become a chief executive officer nor even a top manager in a large company? It is important for all business majors to study strategic management simply because we can also give proper opinions or suggestions if we have studied strategic management. It is better for a company no matter how big or small it is to hear more from their employees that could help them in making decisions that affects the company achieve their goals and objectives.
