Emmar Properties is the company responsible for this project. Their contractors started building the structure on September 21, 2004. The main builders responsible for the building’s construction are the South Korean company Samsung Engineering Construction, Besix from Belgium, and Arabtec from UAE, with Turner Construction Company as the construction manager. Samsung also constructed the Petronas Twin Towers and Taipei 101. The building was designed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM). This company also made the architectural designs for Chicago’s Sears Tower and New York City’s Freedom Tower, to name a few. It exceeded the height of Taipei 101 on July 21, 2007 which is 509.2 meters (1,671 feet) tall. On April 7, 2008, it surpassed KVLY-TV tower. Having 160 floors, it also holds the record for the building that has the most number of floors Emmar Properties announced via its official website that the structure’s height reached 707 meters (2,320 feet). The final height of the building will only be released after its completion which is projected on September 2009.
