Ecuador Located in the northwest corner of South America, between Colombia and Peru, Ecuador is a small country with much to offer its visitors. One of the main tourist destinations is the Equator, known as La Mitad del Mundo, but Ecuador has many other artistic and cultural points of interest, such as the Galápagos Islands, Mindo, Guayaquil, the colonial cities of Quito and Cuenca, the Amazon Region, and the Otavalo market, full of beautiful works of art handmade by members of Ecuador’s several indigenous groups.
About Us La Poderosa Media Project is an organization based in Austin, Texas that encourages empowerment, cultural competence, and intercultural translation through digital media and service learning programs in Latin America. Objectives - To facilitate the self-representation, creative expression, and economic advancement of underprivileged Latin American youth by promoting equal access to multimedia training and resources. - To provide American college students with a high quality and affordable alternative to study, intern, and volunteer abroad. - To bring together into productive dialogue two culturally and linguistically diverse groups through the creation of digital media. Intercultural Translation “The procedure that allows for mutual intelligibility among different experiences of the world without jeopardizing their identity and autonomy, without reducing them to homogeneous entities.” Boaventura de Sousa Santos
Language Program This is not a typical Spanish learning program. Once you step out of the classroom, you will not leave what you learned for the day at the door. In Ecuador you will be able to immediately put to use each lesson, combined with your prior knowledge of Spanish, while conversing with locals and your fellow compañeros. As a participant you will receive personal Spanish lessons from highly qualified instructors, who will customize a study plan for your individual linguistic needs. Video Program We provide Latin American youth with the knowledge, tools, and skills needed to produce short films and documentaries. We teach both theory and practice, focusing on the three stages of filmmaking: pre-production, production, and postproduction. Our workshops help young adults express their creativity through digital narratives. We encourage students to develop their own stories while guiding them through the process of bringing those stories to life.
Bahía de Caráquez Our next project will take place in Bahía de Caráquez, on the Pacific coast of Ecuador. This coastal town boasting several beaches is situated in the province of Manabí.
