Dear Friends, This book contains tales of local men and women who are truly “the vigilant, the active, the brave.” These veterans have served our country with honor. This project of compiling their tales is simply a small act of offering them honor as well. Putting their stories in print is so important...for it’s simply necessary for all of us to remember. Ronald Reagan once said, “We remember those who were called upon to give all a person can give, and we remember those who were prepared to make that sacrifice if it were demanded of them in the line of duty, though it never was.” May this group of stories inspire you as much as they have me. And let us always remember that freedom has been secured and continues to be defended by our bigilant, active and brave armed forces. May God bless our veterans, our military and our great country.
