Blood Atonement In this study, we are going to concentrate on the blood, not the grace that should follow (the blood). The blood has to do with the blotting out of sins. Grace has to do with the power to overcome sin. Professing Christians don’t understand how the blood works, or how grace works. In Hebrew, the word for atonement comes from the word kafar, “to cover.” Yom Kippur is “the day of covering.” Leviticus 17:11 “For the life of the flesh [is] in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it [is] the blood [that] maketh an atonement for the soul.” Blood makes atonement for the soul—covers sin, blots out iniquity. The wages of sin is death. Blood must be spilled to even out the debt. He gave the life (the blood) of bulls, etc., for an atonement/covering of their souls. Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name YESHUA: for he shall save his people from their sins.” He shall save His people from their sins. John 1:29 “The next day John seeth Yeshua coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of Elohiym, which taketh away the sin of the world.” Blood of animals in Old Testament is symbolic of Yeshua’s blood. Through one man (Adam), sin and death entered. Through one blameless Lamb, atonement and grace unto life. Romans 3:23-25 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of Elohiym; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Yeshua ha Mashiyach: 25 Whom Elohiym hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of Elohiym;” Justified by His grace through the redemption that is in Mashiyach Yeshua: through faith in His blood there is a remission of sins that are past—and then we receive the grace to live soberly, righteously, and chassidut (godly). (Titus 2:12) In the Old Testament, after the temple was cleansed, Elohiym dwelt in it. (Symbolic of the cleansing of our temples through Yeshua’s blood, and then His dwelling in us.) “Remission of sins that are past” (Romans 3:25); Yeshua’s blood was chiefly shed to atone for our past life. Romans 5:9 “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” Justified by His blood from sins that are past. (see context) Hebrews 10:26-31 “26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of Elohiym, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance [belongeth] unto me, I will recompense, saith Adonai. And again, Adonai shall judge his people. 31 [It is] a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living Elohiym.” “Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? Elohiym forbid…” Romans 6:1,2 “Let everyone that nameth the name of ha Mashiyach depart from iniquity.” 2 Timothy 2:19 The blood remits sins that are past. The temple is sanctified that the Spirit of truth may enter. Grace poured out into temple—have knowledge of truth with power to live by it. To sin willfully is to step

on the Spirit and count the blood an unholy thing instead of reverencing the Spirit and esteeming the blood that sanctified you. John did write that if any man sin, we have an advocate (1 John 2:1), but the things that he was writing he wrote so that we would not sin. Hebrews 9:1-28 All those things in the Old Testament (the tabernacle and the things that were in it) were patterns of heavenly things. The “holiest” (Hebrews 9:7,8) represented the heavens. The way into the heavens was not yet opened up. The high priest was only allowed in as a symbolic type—foreshadowing ha Mashiyach the High Priest—during the time in which the tabernacle was set up: a figure for the time then present. The blood of animals was spilled for sins—both of the priest and the people. Yeshua did not enter into an earthly tabernacle, but into heaven itself. (Hebrews 9:24) He made atonement with His own blood. The patterns of things (the tabernacle, etc.) were purified by the blood of the animals, but the heavenly things themselves with a better sacrifice than these. (Hebrews 9:23) (The blood of ha Mashiyach) We are the tabernacle. Yeshua is the minister of the tabernacle that Elohiym pitched, not man. (Hebrews 8:2) A “testament” is what is read when someone dies, showing what they leave you. Through the death of Yeshua, the testator, we are left with the promise of eternal life. Leviticus 25:47-50 “And if a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother [that dwelleth] by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger [or] sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger's family: After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may redeem him: Either his uncle, or his uncle's son, may redeem him, or [any] that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself. And he shall reckon with him that bought him from the year that he was sold to him unto the year of jubile: and the price of his sale shall be according unto the number of years, according to the time of an hired servant shall it be with him.” Romans 7:14 “For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.” Sold under sin—Need a redeemer. We were in debt: we sinned, and the wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23) Blood is the price owed. A lot of people will have to pay for their own debt, because they are not looking to Yeshua—His blood is not atoning for them. We were delivered from s great a death. (2 Corinthians 1:10) Yeshua is the only one who could redeem us because He was without sin. (Hebrews 7:26-28) He was not worthy of death. (Psalms 49:7,8) Acts 20:28 “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of Elohiym, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” Elohiym redeemed the church with His own blood. A heavy price. We should be thankful. Amen. 1 Corinthians 6:20 “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify Elohiym in your body, and in your spirit, which are Elohiym's.” We were bought with His blood. We had a heavy debt upon us. Isaiah 53:1-7 “1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of YAHVEH revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him.3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of Elohiym, and afflicted.5 But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and

with his stripes we are healed.6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and YAHVEH hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” vs 10 Thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin. A trespass offering. (1 John 1:7) “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Yeshua ha Mashiach his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” The blood is for those who are walking in the light, not for those who are sinning willfully. Mark 15:37,38 “And Yeshua cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.” The veil separated the sanctuary from the holiest of holies. Before Yeshua’s death, only the high priest could enter into the holiest. The holiest represented the heavens. When the veil was torn, it was symbolic of Yeshua’s flesh being torn. Hebrews 10:19,20 “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Yeshua, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;” Through blood spilled—rending of his flesh—the way to heaven opened up. John 14:6 “Yeshua saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” No way into the holiest—the heavens—but through His blood. Romans 5:4-11 “And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of Elohiym is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. 6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Mashiyach died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But Elohiym commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Mashiyach died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to Elohiym by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11 And not only [so], but we also joy in Elohiym through our Adonai Yeshua ha Mashiyach, by whom we have now received the atonement.” (vs 6): Without strength against sin. (vs 6-8) People won’t even die for a righteous, good person. How much less a wicked heathen. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13) We were enemies (Romans 5:10), alienated from Him by wicked works. (Colossians 11:21) He brought us into a friendship. Hebrews 13:11,12 “For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. Wherefore Yeshua also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.” Yeshua’s death—suffering without the gate—was symbolized in certain ritualistic sanctification. Colossians 1:14 “In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins:” Redemption relates directly to forgiveness—remission of sins. 1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of Elohiym.” Elohiym has ordained a power in the preaching of the cross, the blood.* 1 Peter 1:18-20 “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Mashiyach, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,” We owed a debt of death. He didn’t just come with silver and gold to redeem us—and it wasn’t with the blood of a wicked man—He was as a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Again, in Romans 3:25, it speaks of the remission of sins that are past. Need to consider this. Need to fear. If go on sinning willfully after having received a knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins. The blood of Yeshua does not cover you. There is a sin unto death. (1 John 5:16) There is a point of no return. You don’t want to find out what the line is that you have to cross. Esau, for one morsel of meat, sold his birthright. He found no place of repentance. He was rejected. (Hebrews 12:16,17) Now that He has washed our sins away and given us grace, take heed to it. Walk in fear. Reverence His atonement.
