This form is intended for use in courses scheduled for a fifteen-week semester, where weekly focus papers are required and where students are given a minimum number of papers to complete throughout the semester. I usually give students a firm due date for focus papers -- say, a few hours before the last class of the week -- and say they must turn in ten papers over the course of a fifteen-week semester. When a student turns in a focus paper, simply enter the date the paper was received in the first available block on the row beginning with the student's name. This way you will always be able to tell how many papers a student has turned in and when they were completed. Before the semester begins, amend this sheet by correcting the number of rows in the table and pasting the students' names into the leftmost column. Light shading in the rightmost few columns indicates optional papers. If ten focus papers are required over the semester, then columns eleven through fifteen should be shaded. If students join the class later, print a supplemental sheet with only their names. Example:
In this example class, good Annie has handed in a focus paper each week and is now up to four; bad Bobby has handed in only two; Charlie has done three; and dreadful Donna has managed to complete only one, in the third week of class.
