Dear Council Candidate: You are cordially invited to attend a City Council candidates forum at the Over-the-Rhine Biergarten at Findlay Market, to be held on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 1:00PM. This is one of two forums to be held at the Biergarten. One will be for incumbent candidates held on August 16, and one to be held for non-incumbent candidates to be held on August 23. This division has been made to provide all candidates with adequate time to be heard. The format will be the same for both. If it is not possible for you to attend the August 16th forum, you are welcome to attend the August 23rd forum. The candidates forum at the Biergarten is a return to Cincinnati’s political past. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the future of council members, mayors and U.S. presidents were forged in Over-theRhine beer gardens. Today, the neighborhood is no longer the epicenter of political destinies that it once was, but it is at the core of a number of issues that impact the entire city. We hope that you can attend and share your views regarding Over-the-Rhine’s place in Cincinnati’s future. The format will be: Interested candidates are invited to attend a tour of Findlay Market, including an explanation of the city’s investments: 12:00PM Welcome and introduction of candidates: 1:00PM Series of questions regarding OTR and the urban core 1:10PM – 2:10PM Open statement by candidates (5 minutes each) 2:10 – 2:55PM Interested candidates are invited to take a walking tour of part of Cincinnati’s historic Brewery District 3:00PM – 4:00PM
Please RSVP to
[email protected]. A questionnaire and list of proposed questions will follow. Tours are an optional part of the program. Candidates will be on a dais and provided voice amplification. We hope that you can attend and bring your supporters. The Biergarten at Findlay Market is open throughout the summer, every Saturday 11:00AM – 5:00PM, and every Sunday 12:00PM – 4:00PM. Candidates are also welcome to bring supporters, meet the public, and enjoy a local brew during any hours of operation. The Biergarten is run by the Over-the-Rhine Foundation and the Brewery District CURC, in cooperation with the Corporation for Findlay Market. All proceeds of its operation benefit these local non-profits. The forum is non-partisan, open to all candidates, and intended to educate the public. Sincerely, Michael Morgan, Executive Director, Over-the-Rhine Foundation And Steve Hampton, President, Brewery District CURDC
