President’s Message

Welcome to our 3rd Annual Bisayan and Friends Cultural Society Christmas party. I canʼt imagine that we are now on our third year celebrating with the community! This year has been a challenging year for all of us. As we go through another journey, we will continue to accomplish our goals in helping others that are in need. Supporting new immigrants, helping them get established as well as to continue to be a part of their lives. Thatʼs what we are as Bisayans. We have been selfless in our continued support to our very own. Making friends to strangers and reconnecting with some. We have become a part of a lot of new immigrants here. But one thing that really stands out from the group is Unity. And we pride ourselves with the hospitality - the Bisayan way. The Bisayan and Friends Cultural Society was established for that very purpose. Simple but true. We hold dear to Unity and to helping other Bisayans. But we also extend our help elsewhere when needed. As we mature as a group, our goals are also changing. We are extending even further to our reach of support. And we would like you to be a part of these endeavors. We would like you to be a part of our future. I appreciate and congratulate everyone who plays part of making this organization stand on its feet. May the Lord continue to protect each of our families and bless us all. Merry Christmas to everyone.

As times goes by and our organization grows every inch of the day, the much awaited special event this year is again celebrated, “the 3rd Annual Christmas Party” signaling a solid camaraderie of Filipino way of life. The Bisayan and Friends Cultural Society was created because of the demands and needs of our fellow brothers and sisters, of whom they can express their feelings and where they can rely or lean on. Most of our brothers and sisters who are just new here are frustrated especially those who has no family, friends or relatives living here. Now that our organization is fully operational, the longingness, the frustrations and the needs of our fellow brothers and sisters will be consoled and fostered. The vision of the Bisayan and Friend Cultural Society is to help and assist the need of every Filipino and Canadian individuals who are living here in Canada as well as to the new comers. Our mission is to unite every Filipino Bisayan and Canadian to be a one happy community (God loving and heartily supporting each other). My congratulations to all officers, Board of Directors and members who in one way or another joined hand in hand to make this organization and this affair a fruitful one. Merry Christmas to all... and enjoy our 3rd Annual Christmas party! Elmer San Mateo Chairman of the Board

How it all Began... In the mid-year of 2006, a group of Bisayans went for a trek at an astounding Canadian recreational area. They have decided then that it would’ve been a good thing to create a group. Ideas were flying and emotions were felt. There was this need to create what we deem a needed revival. It started with the name “ Filipino Friends — Da Bisayan Connections.” It was not until December 2006 that we were officially formed with the organization’s majority preferred name “the Bisayan and Friends Cultural Society.” It was a good month to form it as we also held our first ever Christmas gathering. The turnout was just amazing. There was a huge attendance and we were humbled by the praises. But that is not why we are here. We are here to lend a helping hand especially to people who have risked everything to come to Canada and started a new life.
We are here for you….
