Palmgrove Road requires dumpsters e request W the authorities concerned to clear up the garbage that has been piling up on Palmgrove Road. The area close to the stormwater drain has become a garbage dump. There are no dumpsters in sight, so nearby residents empty garbage in this spot. This is attracting a lot of flies and mosquitoes. Can they please clear it up and provide some dumpsters? Ranjan D, Austin Town
Complete undertaken projects on time e hope the BBMP completes projects taken W up by them on time. When land was taken over from the Turf Club to widen the Race Course road, that was left incomplete. It is almost two years now and the space is being used as a parking lot. It is a similar case with the land taken from private bungalows on MG Road. The city also faces huge parking problems. Why can’t the authorities do everything step by step? Parking lots need to be constructed, roads widened and better infrastructure means more investments into the city. We hope the authorities are listening. Shrija K, Basavanagudi

Seize cars parked on city footpaths
T
he traffic police do not hesitate to take into possession two-wheelers that are parked in noparking zones. They should extend the same rule to four-wheelers as well. In fact cars are more of a nuisance as they create bigger traffic obstructions. I have noticed some drivers’ training centres parking cars on the footpaths, which are no-parking zones meant for pedestrians only. The police, when asked why these cars are not taken into custody for violating the rules, simply say that they are levying a Rs 100 fine per vehicle everyday for blocking the footpaths. I think this is doubtful as the car owners are not present on the spot to shell out the amount, nor can the police hang around all day to collect a small fine. This practice is ineffective and will not deter any car owners from parking illegally. I suggest the police seize four-wheelers which are parked illegally. B S Raghavendra Rao, Banashankari

A weekend with Tendulkar TENZIN DECHEN DECCAN CHRONICLE
V
ersion One Dot Oh! (VODO) presents a treat for theatre lovers with a ‘Vijay Tendulkar Weekend’. The Bengaluru theatre group has two of the famous playwright’s social dramas lined up this weekend — The Cyclist and Silence! The Court is in Session. Directed by Harish Seshadri, The Cyclist is a metaphorical play which was intended to be Tendulkar’s last. “It is a commentary on life told through a cyclist’s journey around the world,” says Vikram Rai, one of the founding members of VODO. “Our protagonist

is a man who has felt confined for a long time. One day, he decides to embark on a journey and sets out to meet some interesting characters along the way.” Silence! The Court is in Session, directed by Kishore Acharya, is one
of Tendulkar’s best known works. First staged in 1967, the play is set against the backdrop of small town Maharashtra in those times. “A travelling theatre group arrives at a village and having some time to spare before their performance, they
start a game of mock court. During this banter, they start pulling each other’s legs and soon their dark secrets come spilling out. The actors turn on the female protagonist, who has had a child out of wedlock. This play within a play exposes the double standards of society,” Vikram offers. “Tendulkar was known for his plays which are social commentaries laced with satire. We are bringing together two of his works, which still find relevance in today’s times,” Vikram adds. Catch The Cyclist on October 30 and Silence! The Court is in Session on October 31 at Alliance Française, Vasanthnagar, at 3.30 and 7.30 pm.
