Compass USA Homestay

Your Passport To the World of International Friendship

A Homestay is an OPPORTUNITY  For you to learn and to teach your children to make friends with people throughout the world.  For students and families to intimately share their lifestyles and customs within the home.  To personally contribute to the growth of international understanding.

Hosting is FUN!

Learn about another culture and language without leaving home.  Broadens children’s perspectives on the world.  Contribute to understanding among people.  Students become members of the family and form lifelong friendships.  See your community through the eyes of someone new.

Host Families Come In ALL Shapes and Sizes

Who Can Be a Host Family?

A "host family" is : a couple with or without children or a single parent with at least one child living at home.

Single person

But I’m Single! You can host an adult escort.

Your Family Needs to:  SPEAK ENGLISH in your home.  Provide a separate bed in a private or shared bedroom.  Feed your student three meals a day!  have realistic expectations of what life is like with a teenager.  be excited about hosting!

We Don’t Have a Guestroom The student may share a room with a family member of the same gender and similar age. The student must have her/his own bed. A comfortable fold-out couch, blow-up bed, or futon is fine. A student must stay in a room where he can have some Privacy A family room or den that can be converted to a guestroom with a door that ensures privacy can be used as a bedroom for the student.

How Much Does It Cost to Host? The only expenses a family incurs are those of including another person in regular activities and meals. Although families may choose to pay for other activities with their students, this is not required.

Shared Expectations Foster a Successful Homestay

Treat Your Student Like a Member of Your FAMILY

How Is Our Student Selected? We Consider:

Will Our Student Speak English?

Most of our students from Europe have strong English skills, but it usually takes a few days for them to relax and feel comfortable. Our Asian students have more limited speaking capability, but can usually read and write very well.

What If I Need HELP? The Program Coordinator is your community representative who plans and supervises all aspects of the program. The PC is available to help you with the smallest question or the largest emergency 24/7 during your homestay.
