Simon Serrano, Esq. 52 Liberty St. #1 Montpelier, VT 05602 Dear Recruiter, I have selected to apply to Booz & Co. as it is the leading global consulting firm. I am currently attending Vermont Law School’s Environmental Law LLM program and will complete my studies at the end of the spring 2010 semester. My accompanying résumé demonstrates my interest in and experience with Environmental Law. In the course of my Juris Doctor studies, I earned a certificate in Environmental Law and International Law, managed and founded the Environmental Law Moot Court Team, and assisted Professor John Knechtle by drafting International Protected Area regulations. Lastly, while at Coastal, I studied Ocean and Coastal law in the Cayman Islands. Beyond my scholastic achievements, I have held several internships in furtherance of my studies. I was initially employed in the Law Office of Robert J. Slama, a Civil Rights litigation law firm, where I had the opportunity to draft multiple motions, meet with clients, counsel clients, and speak with judicial staff to schedule matters with the Court. After my experience with Mr. Slama, I was able to focus on environmental issues when I was employed with the City of Jacksonville, Florida and the County of St. Johns, Florida. With the City, I assisted the City’s environmental counsel with the enforcement of a newly implemented sewage ordinance. With the County, I drafted the County’s noise ordinance. Prior to my legal education, I spent several years in the retail industry concluding with a one year stint as a Men’s Store Manager of an Abercrombie & Fitch store. This position taught me of the importance of scheduling and managing personalities. Our store was often top in sales in the district, and top 5 in the region. These accomplishments were often achieved through my ability to meticulously manage my personnel by placing the right personality and look in each section of the store. Finally, I have selected to apply to your firm as it is a leading consulting firm with several offices focusing on environmental issues. As I reviewed your firm’s site, I noted that your Houston office focuses heavily on energy policy. While at VLS, I have had the opportunity to gain deep knowledge on developing environmental issues such as land use and wind energy, issues affronted with international property ownership, and issues relating to subsurface property rights. Prior to attending VLS, while employed with Mr. Slama, I had the opportunity to assist with the defense of an individual who was cited as a former owner and operator of leaky Underground Storage Tanks. Through this case, I was able to gain invaluable hands on experience with environmental litigation. In particular, I assisted Mr. Slama in counseling his client and worked with opposing counsel from Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection to discharge our client’s fine. My legal education and experience have prepared me for a career which lends itself to counseling clientele on environmental issues. My retail experience has prepared me to lead a team of co-workers and clients so that we may solve any issues faced by your clientele. Thank you for your consideration. Do not hesitate to contact me for additional materials. Sincerely,
Simon Peter Serrano, Esq.
