Bodega Monteviejo Mendoza

(From Château Le Gay, Pomerol)

Bodega Monteviejo is owned and operated by Chateau Le Gay, of Pomerol. The wines made at this very special property in Argentina are treated with the same dedication and care as those produced back home in Bordeaux. The vineyards, over 100 hectares, are located in the commune of Tunuyan, just 80km south of the city of Mendoza. The goal here is to create wines that can compete with the world’s best. Yields are kept low and the vineyard is vertically trained, with vines planted at a density of 5,500 vines per hectare. This configuration corresponds to the region’s traditional method of planting old vine Malbec at 1.8m x 1m spacing. We are honored to carry on this traditional method of agriculture, as we believe it is key aspect of what has created Argentina’s worldwide reputation for truly world-class wine.

Bodega Monteviejo Mendoza

(From Château Le Gay, Pomerol) Bodega Monteviejo is located at the foothill of the Andes Mountains, south of Mendoza and next to Vista Flores. This winery was created by Catherine Péré-Vergé and is one of the most ambitious Argentinean project of late. The goal here is nothing less than to create some of the world’s best wines. Her friend Michel Rolland is in charge of winemaking with Marcelo Peleritti, the manager of the winery. We grow traditional grape varieties, which include Malbec, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

Bodega Poesia Mendoza

(From Clos l’Eglise, Pomerol)

In creating Poesia, Hélène Garcin-Lévêque and her husband, viticulturalist Patrice Lévêque, have used their experience as owners of Clos L’Eglise (Pomerol), Château Barde-Haut (St Emilion Grand Cru), Château Branon (Pessac-Leognan) and Château Haut Bergey (Pessac-Leognan) and the naturally benevolent climate of Mendoza to produce one of the finest wines in Argentina. Poesia comes from a single 13 hectare vineyard that was planted in 1935; the encépagement is 60% Malbec “Franco” and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon “Franco,” planted at 5,500 vines/ha. The work in the vineyard is both natural and meticulous, with regular ploughing and no use of herbicides or pesticides. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand. The wine is vatted for 30 days in 60 hectoliter wooden containers before being aged for 18 to 20 months in 100% new French oak barrels. The wine is rich and displays flavors of cocoa, coffee and toast along with black fruits and loam. Rich and powerful in its youth, Poesia will gain nuance and complexity with bottle age.

Clos des Andes Mendoza

(From Clos l’Eglise, Pomerol)

Another outstanding effort from Hélène Garcin-Lévêque and her husband, viticulturalist Patrice Lévêque, owners of some Bordeaux’s most sought-after labels (including Clos l’Eglis in Pomerol) and Poesia, also in Mendoza. Clos des Andes comes from 100% Malbec vines with an average age of 80 years that are planted at 5,500 vines/ha. Much like its “big sister,” Poesia, the work in the vineyard of Clos des Andes is both natural and meticulous, with regular ploughing and no use of herbicides or pesticides. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand. The wine is vatted for 30 days in stainless steel containers before being aged for 10 months in French oak barrels. The wine is full-bodied, with lush boysenberry, raspberry and plum fruit flavors that stretch out on the finish to show enticing cocoa, spice and mineral notes. Clos des Andes is meant for early consumption, but it is not a simple wine.

Pasodoble Mendoza

(From Clos l’Eglise, Pomerol)

Pasodoble (“two-step” in Spanish) is a traditional Spanish dance that, like the creators of the wine with the same name, actually originated in France. Unlike the complicated and highly choreographed dance, however, Pasodoble the wine is something that can enjoyed by everyone. The wine is made by Hélène Garcin-Lévêque and her husband, viticulturalist Patrice Lévêque, also the owners of Bodegas Poesia and Clos des Andes. Unlike these two wines, however, Pasodoble is made using grapes purchased from specially selected growers throughout Argentina’s most prestigious growing region - Mendoza. This means that Pasodoble is a wine that can be made in larger quantities and offered at a price suited to large festivities or everyday drinking. This does not mean, however, that quality has been sacrificed at any point in the wine’s production. The grapes used to make Pasodoble (equal parts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Syrah) are treated with a minimum amount of chemicals before being harvested by hand. The goal is to insure that only ripe healthy grapes are harvested, while maintaining the natural unspoiled beauty of this special viticultural region. The wine is fermented exclusively in tank to maintain its fresh fruity character. Pasodoble is a great wine to serve by itself at cocktail parties, but is also versatile enough to be a welcome addition to any dinner table!
