Universal Design for Learning (UDL): For student who have a hearing disability, I would let them watch the video and enable the captions on the screen so they can read along as the video plays. By doing this the student wouldn’t feel singled out because of their hearing impairment. For any blind students within the classroom I would plug in the headphones so the child could hear the video being played and be able to understand the content without needing to watch it. For the ESL students in the classroom I would put the video in their home language (if possible) so they can follow along and be able to understand the content without struggling to follow along in English when the student doesn’t know much English yet. Lesson idea implementation: To begin the lesson of Historical Figures in GA history, a video would be watched about most historical figures and their life’s on BrainPop. After the video is done a discussion will be brought about to discuss if the students have heard/ learned about certain historical figures in Georgia such as Jimmy Carter, Jackie Robinson, Martin Luther King Jr., Juliette Gordon Low, Sequoyah, Mary Musgrove and Tomochichi. If they have another discussion would be placed to talk about what that student knew or heard. Then the Timeline application from ReadWriteThink.org will be used by the students to create a timeline on the historical figures of Georgia life’s and the student will have to put 6-8 events on their timeline in detail with at least 4 pictures. After each child has completed their timeline a classroom timeline will be made in the hallway outside the classroom and each child has to pick someone that hasn’t already been picked. By doing this the students will see the product of their hard work in the hallway that can be seen by staff, teachers, students, administrator and parents. To finish up this lesson I will have the groups that did a time line on a certain GA historical person do a presentation in front of the class. By having the different group of students present their person in front of the class it will let other students know more about that historical person and they have a chance to take notes on it. By having the children take notes on GA’s historical people it will give them a study guide for an upcoming test and it also gives them a different learning technique rather than sitting in their desks and watching their teacher every day. Reflective Practice: Extending this project might involve publishing the student’s timelines on the classroom website under a tab called Historical Figures of Georgia so the students can go back and review the information for an Spring 2018_SJB

Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tools (BBPT) upcoming test. By posting the timelines online it can give the parents an opportunity to see their child’s work and the classrooms work by looking at the timelines online even if they don’t have the time to go look at it at their child’s school. Students could extend their project by adding event in their Historical figures of Georgia timeline with people who impacted that person’s life or with a specific person’s events who was inspired by that person work after he/she died.
