Front Foot Drive Equipment Per Group

Time 10 min • 1 Batting Tee • 1 Ball • 4 cones • 1 Bat • Set up a batting tee with 2 cones in a goal formation 1015m from batting tee • 1 batter • 1 fielder • Students take turns to hit the ball off the tee with a front foot drive • Partner fields the ball and throws it back to the batter who re tee’s • Swap over after 6 balls

Make goals smaller/ bigger Use 1 arm to bat (helps develop skill) Can add in more students e.g. wicketkeeper, outfielder Can take out batting tee and have a sender throw the ball Step Swing Drive Rink stage 1/2 Easy to set class up in circle formation with batters hitting out

Rapid Fire Equipment Per Group Instructions

Time 10-20 min • Bat • 6 Balls • 6 Batting Tee’s • 4 Markers • 2 Wickets • The object of the game is for the batting team to hit the ball from the tees, through the goals which are guarded by the fielding team. Fielders cannot move forward of the goals (Safety Zone) until the last ball is hit • The goals should be approximately 20m from the batters. (This will vary with age/ability) • Batter has 6 hits • After the last ball is hit the batter runs between A – D scoring single runs • To stop the batter from running the fielders have to retrieve the balls and put them back on the tees in the designated area • When all players from one team have batted, the teams reverse roles

Add a goal and scoring system to safety zone e.g. through the goals = 4 runs, caught = -2

Pairs Cricket Equipment Per Group

Instructions

Time 15-30min • 2 Bats • 2 Balls • 2 Wickets • 1 Stumps • 1 batting tee • Matches should consist of no more than 6-8 players (3-4 pairs) • Players compete in pairs against the other pairs • Batters can be out bowled caught or run out • If batters get out they simply swap ends and continue to bat • After two overs the batting pair retire and the next pair have their turn to bat • Each player bowls one over of 6 balls while their partner wicket keeps • After they have completed their over they swap • The ball must be bowled with a straight arm • If a pair is not batting or bowling, they are fielding, so that everyone is involved • You do not have to run when you hit the ball. 12. If the ball is missed, batters may still run

Time 15-30min • 1 Bat • 6 Balls • 2 Wickets • 1 Hoop • Object of the game is to hit the ball between the cones similar to Rapid Fire • Goals 20m from batter and 10-15m apart • The batter stands on the cone set up whilst a team member throws them an underarm ball at chest height • The batter must perform a hook shot and hit the ball • Once all balls are hit the batter must run between the wickets whilst the fielders field the balls • Fielders cant start fielding until all balls have been hit • Once all the balls are back into the hoop the batter mnust stop running • Repeat until all batters have batted

Caterpillar Cricket Equipment Per Group

Instructions

Time 15-30min • 1 Bat • 1 Ball • 1 Wicket • 1 Batting tee • 8 Cones • Split into 2 teams, decide which team bats. • Fielding team spread out behind target line. • Batting team line up as in diagram. • In turn a batter strikes the ball from the top of the ball stand (tee on stump) towards the target line. • That batter then runs around the box and through the gate followed in a straight line by the whole batting team. • On return, that batter joins the back of the line for the next batter to repeat. • The batting team do not run if the ball does not cross the target line or if the batter is caught. • Drill is mirrored if there is a left-handed batter • Once the ball has crossed the target line and been stopped by a fielder, the rest of the fielding team must form a line behind them. The ball is passed overhead in a straight line until it reaches the 5th fielder who then runs to touch the ball on the set of stumps.
