Batting Teeline Drive
ACTIVITY 1 INSTRUCTIONS DIAGRAM 1. Create two equal teas and set up the field as per the diagram. One team bats first and the other team fields. 2. The fielders spread out behind the cones, with one fielder who takes position as the wicketkeeper. 3. Each batter gets a turn hitting the ball off the batting tee. 4. The scoring system – 1 point is awarded for hitting the ball between the cones, and another point can be awarded for running with the bat around the cone and back to the batting tee again. 5. Each member of the batting team is allowed two turns before swapping with the fielding team. Variation • Underarm bowl. • Get the batter to drop the ball from underneath his/her chin let it bounce once and then hit the ball. • Increase the distance between the running cones. LEST L = 4 groups of 4 E = x8 cones/group (x16), x1 bat/group (x2), x1 wicket/group (x2), x1 ball/group (x2) S = 10mx15m (x2) T = No more than 10mins
ACTIVITY 2 INSTRUCTIONS
DIAGRAM
1. Split players into pairs (one will begin as the batter, the other as the fielder) 2. The batter drives the ball off the batting tee and scores 1 run each time it goes between the two cones (cones set up 15meters in front of the batting tee and 5meters apart) 3. The fielder has to stop the ball and return it to the batter. 4. Each player gets six turns trying to drive the ball. Count number of points scored before swapping. Variation Batting Target Driving
• •
Increase the difficulty by underarm bowling the ball to the batter. Create extra zones that the batter has to hit the ball into to score extra runs.
LEST L = 8 groups of 2 E = x2 cones/group (x16), x1 bat/group (x8), x1 ball/group (x8), x1 batting tee/group (x8) S = 5mx15m (x8) T = No more than 10mins
ACTIVITY 3 INSTRUCTIONS
Batting Diamond Cricket
DIAGRAM
1. The game is played on a diamond shaped playing area with a set of stumps at each corner. A batter needs to stand at each set of stumps. 2. The bowler may bowl the ball to any batter. It’s the fielders’ job to return the ball back to the bowler in the middle of the diamond. 3. After bowling six balls the bowler rotates with one of the fielders so that everyone has a chance to bowl. 4. Once the ball has been hit, the batters run clockwise to the next set of stumps (or further, if they can)! 5. Batters must run if they miss two balls in succession. If the players successfully make it to the next set of stumps altogether, it counts as 10 runs. Variation Always bowl from the centre of the diamond. • Batter calls the direction in which all batter run in – either left or right LEST L = 4 groups of 4 (2 matches set up) E = x1 cone/match (x2), x4 wickets/match (x8), x4 bat/match (x8), x1 ball/match (x2) S = 20mx20m (x2) T = No longer than 15mins •
