Basic Computation/s Part 1 BMI & Ideal Body Weight

BMI 

= weight in kg/height in m2



Interpretation • Underweight – less than 18. 5 • Normal weight – 18.5 – 24. 9 • Overweight - 25 – 29. 9 • Obese - more than 30

Weight  

At birth – 3000 grams <6 mo. – wt. In grams. • Age in mos. X 600 + BWT.



6 -12 mos. wt. In grams. • Age in mos. X 500 + BWT.

Weight 

1- 6 years • Wt. In kgs = age in yrs. X 2 + 8



6 – 12 years • Wt. In kgs. = age in years x 7 – 5/2

Ideal Body Weight 

Female • 100 pounds + (5 lbs. Per inch over 5 ft.)



Male • 106 pounds + (6 lbs. Per inch over 5 ft.)

Examples 

1. Compute for the Ideal Body Weight of male and female with: • Given: 5 ft. 4 in.  5 ft. 8 in  6 ft 11 in.  5 ft. 3 ½  7 ft 1 in.  6 ft 10 in. 

Example for BMI 

1. Compute for the BMI • Ht. • Ht. • Ht. • Ht.

5’7”, wt. 166 lbs. 6’ , wt. 98 kgs. 7’ , wt. 112 kgs 5’2”, wt. 78 kgs.

Pediatric weight/s 

1. Compute for the ideal weight of the ffg. • 4 mos. Birthweight 3200 grams • 3 years and 3 mos. Birthweight 3000 grams • 8 mos. Birthweight 2900 grams • 11 years old Birthweight 3200 grams • 2 mo. Birthweight 2.9 kgs.
