I remember my first time . . . being absorbed into a story about something that intrigued me enormously, even though the actual topic is irrelevant at the moment because it started quite innocently as I first read with deep curiosity and anticipation, even during the opening paragraphs of what I was reading, while I was more and more consumed into what it was I hadn't yet known, and wanted to because the story wasn't just about the story as much as it was about desire: wanting to draw me into an experience in my mind that was as real as could be inside in such a way that whatever was on the outside didn't matter as much anymore and perhaps even at all because my attention focused inside on the experience that was unfolding Owen Fitzpatrick Experiencing stories so vividly, like the ones told by great story tellers, the ones that spark every sensory receptor triggering connections in each cortex, from clean bright images to crystal clear sounds, tingling sensations from the surface of your skin to the deepest fiber of your bones, is what creates ideas so profound that they blur the differences between what is reality and what is hallucination, and since it can be very difficult to distinguish these difference means you can build realities around how well you can conversationally and naturally weave the fabric that will be present inside your mind with any subject you want and propagate that to others John La Valle Subject: MÉTODO BARNES He says: I am a professor and I am looking for a method as I am decided that I will open a good English school in the axis Goiânia-Anápolis-Brasilia (those are Brazilian cities in the middle of Brazil) I got your contact through the internet and the indication of your phone many times linked to the Method Barnes. I would like to know the methodology and resources applied as well as the possibility of applying the method to a conventional school. ----------------------I asked him at the answer to contact you. I said we did a partnership in translation that is why my name is there and that you are the creator of the method Good luck Best, Gil Subject: Re: MÉTODO BARNES Gilseane Stefani, Sou professor universitário e procuro o método porque estou decido a abrir uma boa escola de inglês no eixo Goiânia-Anápolis-Brasília. Consegui o seu contato na internet, inclusive com a indicação de um número de telefone (07951048218), várias vezes vinculado do Métdo Barnes. Gostaria de conhecer a metodologia e os recursos empregados bem como a possibilidade de aplicação do método numa escola convecional. Se puder me ajudar, fico grato. Jorge Bezerra - Goiânia / GO

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly

because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have

acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. Aristotle, philosopher (384 bC - 322 bC.).

Learning English as a second language Current mood:

Learning English as a second language: Why do we need to learn English? One of the reasons why we need to be able to speak English nowadays is

because the world has become smaller. Due the Internet and the development of the global economy, more persons are using English as a common way for communication. Because of this,

Copyright © Perry Barnes 08/30/07 All Rights Reserved in All Media

companies are hiring more persons that are able to speak more than their own

native languages. This means that English is considered officially as an

international language for business communication. Anything you want to learn from

scratch is difficult, and English language is not exception. There are some

general

rules that can be used for learning English. Check them out:

1. Learning English takes time and a lot of patience; no hurry. So, be patient young padawan. 2. Have a good vocabulary because if you have no words, you don't have to work with. Start from a strong base and

slowly build your learning on it day by day. 3. English must be showed like a part of your body. It must become a part of your everyday life. Daily practice is very important to improve your

learning. 4. Don't be worried about making mistakes. The more mistakes you make

the more you'll learn from them. If you make any mistake just try again until you learn. It's that easy.

5. English should not be faced as just another subject. It's the way how you

will learn that will make the difference. But remember: no pain, no gain. 6. Practice and Confidence. These are two

important words to you remember when learning English. Practice it everyday and be confident. You will notice that the

more you practice your English the more better it will become. The more confident you

become the more you will want to

use it. Simply say to yourself: I CAN DO IT. 7. Some words you will think are very easy; another words not so much. 8. Learning English should be a fun

experience; of course it will depend totally on you.

Enjoy English. Hugs from Rod.

March 9, 2009 - Monday Some tips for English learning. Did you know?

Current mood:

working

1. Between 80% and 90% of language

students doing conventional courses can't speak or read in language they're studying.

2. Approximately 80% of foreign language fluent speakers did not learn languages at schools. Probably some

language teachers you know are selftaught.

3. When you will choose a language Copyright © Perry Barnes 08/30/07 All Rights Reserved in All Media

school you should start studying by the end of the course. This is, you could

watch some classes from the last stage to check if the other students are feeling comfortable and speaking naturally.

Otherwise, you just will be part of the statistics.

4. Good foreign language speakers know approximately 4,000 words, but the group of words used daily it's

between 700 and 800. The big challenge to be fluent in a foreign language is

simpler, and measurable, than you can

suppose or than any examination test could evaluate. 5. According the more modern methods

for adult teaching, a person does not need to do an

evaluation test. The best

one is the student use the language dayby-day. There are a lot of students that can get excellent scores after

examination tests, but they cannot articulate a simple phrase.

6. The 250 more common English words Copyright © Perry Barnes 08/30/07 All Rights Reserved in All Media

appear in 60% of any written text. 7. You can learn English language and don't be worried about grammar. Children does not learn about grammar before they can speak fluently. Related to

natural learning, word meaning and grammar are the last stage in any language teaching.

8. There are plenty of persons that are perfectly able to talking in English to themselves or to other language

teachers, but they can't talk to other ones. The ability to speak a language

(speaking rhythm) depends on teaching

your body for that language rhythm. While your body will not be adapted for the new breathing rhythm, you will not be able to acquire language fluency and you will believe that your brain is blocked. 9. Learn how to think in English is not

only a process in the mind: it's an ability that depends on breathing, motor skill,

brain oxygenation and thinking velocity. Copyright © Perry Barnes 08/30/07 All Rights Reserved in All Media

For example in the phrase The book is on the table: you have 19 letters and 6

syllables (in Portuguese – o livro está sobre a mesa – the same phrase has 20

letters and 10 syllables). Considering the breathing, the Portuguese version is

longer than the English one. If you join thinking and language, it's necessary

think faster in English than in Portuguese because you use less time to speak in

English. Because this speaking speed that's hard to develop the English thinking. So, it will be necessary change old

conditioning and speed up the way you think.

10. Without effort or stress out, it's necessary just 4 or 6 months studying

to read and understand any English text http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm? fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendId=42159902 1

MAGIC MAGIC MAGIC MAGIC MAGIC MAGIC MAGIC MAGIC MAGIC MAGIC MAGIC Hello guys! My name's Gustavo, aka "Guto", I'm 22 going on 23 and Brazilian. To begin with, I think English is the most important language to learn at this moment, especially in the context of globalization. I wonder, what's the most important English skill? What skill must you have to communicate well? I'd say it's fluency! What's fluency? Fluency is the ability to speak and understand a language quickly and easily, without translation. Fluency means you can talk easily with native speakers and that is our main goal here. I'm beginner like most of you and I'm here to exchange some experiences. Dr Barnes is an excellent teacher, he's brilliant! I really like his method and his books. So, to have a good teacher like him is a good start. I'm so proud to be one of his students! I think to be a fantastic English speaker, you must learn English with your ears, not just with your eyes, it's an ideology of a North American teacher. In other words, your ears are the key. The best listening must be understandable and repetitive, both of those words are important. You must hear a new word and new grammar many times before you'll understand them instantly. Increase your learning time and also your listening time. Use iPod or MP3 player. Listen to movies. Guys, that way you'll learn English faster! Another great idea is to read a good English dictionary that brings some slangs and most used expressions by natives and then your speech will sound like theirs. I do that and it really works! Read them, make phrases, practise more and more. Your English will come along like mine. You have tried the old ways, now it's time to try something new! Good luck! I wish you success with your English learning! 'Til next time! Gustavo
