Achievement Awards 2009 The Shields Gazette and Bangla Awaz have come together to launch the second Bangla Achievement Awards, which will be held at the Westovians Theatre at Pier Pavillion, Ocean Road, South Shields, on Monday, December 14. The aim of the event is to inspire people in South Tyneside’s BME community, raise their aspirations and recognise achievement.
There are six categories: n Pupil of the Year (under 16) n Student of the Year (over 16) n Entrepreneur of the Year (under 35) n Business idea of the year n Role model of the year n Judges’ special award
CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS PUPIL OF THE YEAR (under 16) This award is open to pupils in infant, junior, primary and secondary schools in South Tyneside. They may have excelled in a certain subject, shown natural ability in a particular area, done well in exams, achieved against the odds or shown a huge improvement in the last 12 months. STUDENT OF THE YEAR (over 16) This category is open to young people in college, university or training, including mature students. They may have shown great dedication to their work, done something out of the ordinary, graduated with flying colours, or overcome barriers to learning. ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR (under 35) Have you got a business worth shouting about? If so, this category is for you. It could be owned by one person, or a group of people, a social enterprise, or a company whose profits speak for themselves. If you’ve started a business in the last 12 months, or had particular success with an existing one, we want to hear from you. BUSINESS IDEA OF THE YEAR Do you have a business idea which needs nurturing to be a success? Whether small or grand, tell us – and with the right support, this category winner could be setting off on an exciting new career path. ROLE MODEL OF THE YEAR This category is open to the deserving individual who is a shining example to all in the BME community. Serving as an inspiration to those around them, this winner will show how dedication and determination can have a positive effect. JUDGES’ SPECIAL AWARD This category is open to the deserving individual who is a beacon within the BME community. Honoured for their efforts in improving the lives of others within the community as a true champion. THE SHIELDS
