INVENTED BY Hungarian brothers Ladislao and Georg Biro invent a pen with a rolling ball tip. The ballpoint pen’s ease of use will quickly make it the writing instrument of choice, leading to the demise of the fountain pen.
WHAT IS BALL PEN Ballpoint Pen is the modern writing instrument that distributes oil-based ink with a rolling ball tip carrying the ink from an internal reservoir to the paper.
HISTORY OF BALL PEN Its success was based upon a viscous, oil-based ink. Early ballpoint pens did not write well; they tended to skip, and the slow-drying oilbased ink smudged easily.
Advantages of Ball Pen over the Fountain pen The ink was waterproof and almost inerasable. The pen could write on many kinds of surfaces and could be held in almost any position for writing. The pressure required to feed the ink was ideal for making carbon copie.
