The recent statements made by the DPM in the interview with Mingguan Malaysia again proved that UMNO politicians still don't really care much about the feelings of the minority communities in the country. His words were made in bad faith and he could be rightly accused of trying to put the minority community in a bad light. After all, as a veteran politician, he should be fully aware that the minority community has long been the target of organised and systematic discrimination and as a result they have become 'discriminatory' in their choice when picking or voting for their political representatives. The DPM should be aware that the minority community is not swayed by materialist bribery and false promises. They prefer politicians who are known to be moderates, clean, uncorrupt, who are reluctant to make fake promises and who don't curse the public if they don't vote for them. The DPM even went to the extent of accusing the minority newspapers of twisting his statements in order to whip up anger against the country's leaders. It is irresponsible for such a leader of his standing to do such a thing. The newspapers have the right to print the truth, even if the truth hurt. Does the DPM think that the minority community should be behaving like caged pets ? Oh, we feed you, we provide you water and we take care of you, so you should dance and sing for us. You're nuts. The minority community should in fact be heaped with high praise instead and not be thrown venom by irresponsible politicians. The minority community in Malaysia has always been able to make ends meet and survive despite very bad discriminatory and harmful practices carried out against them by the ruling class. Today, they are no longer like the street children seen in many Third World countries who constantly stretched out their hands for handouts. The minority community has been able to stand on their own feet and they are not interested in gifts or presents or cash handouts from patronising politicians. They prefer politicians who can perform, who can promise security and national progress and prosperity and who can scrupulously avoid badmouthing other people. The DPM should be aware that they don't create havoc in public places, they don't harass other people but instead they vote guided only by their conscience. There's no need to curse them at all. It is very disturbing that till today, we still hear about certain people rambling about 'race supremacy', 'enshrined rights', 'enshrined language' and other similar connotations that clearly betray anti-minority feelings among the ruling elite in Malaysia. Hey, this is April 2009 in the 21st century. Very recent statements by the new Information Minister, the Johore UMNO Youth and the DPMM surely will cause unease among people who hunger for a peaceful society

in this country. Seems that extremist opinions are still alive and well in Malaysia. The DPM will now have a hard time in convincing the minority that he is a politician who could be trusted. If he is not careful, he will surely give them even more reasons to make more Bukit Gantangs come true in future elections. The DPM must not walk in the same footsteps of Dr M and never for one moment utter the same kind of words spoken by Dr M, lest he be accused of wanting to wreck our society. He needs to be more careful with his words from now on. It has been very disappointing that his interview actually occurred. It is really bad. Very bad. Too bad.
