Write about the Ideal plug flow tubular reactor. Add a note on the relationship among substrate conversion ( δ ) and reactor design parameters for enzyme catalysed reactions in a PFTR.

2.

Discuss about any two different methods for determination of oxygen transfer coefficient (KLa) in detail.

3.

Explain different dimensionless groups for fluid-wall heat transfer.

4.

Discuss various important factors to be considered in scale-up of microbial bioreactors. What are the difficulties associated with scale-up of a bioreactor.

5.

Write about various measuring devices for monitoring and control of the physical environment of the bioreactor.

6.

A fermentation is considered for scale up from 101 to 10,000 L vessel. The small fermenter has an aspect ratio of 3. The impeller diameter is 30% of the tank diameter. Agitation speed is 500 rpm and 3 Rushton impellors are used. Determine the dimensions of the large fermenter and agitation speed for. a) Constant P/v b) Constant impeller tip speed c) Constant Reynolds number.

7.

Design a plant cell bioreactor. What are its applications?

8.

Discuss about the difficulties associated with the designing of a bioreactor for production of antibiotics using fungal cultures.
