The information that I gave learn and knowledge that I got from the training could be share and benefited to mostly DPIM student and particularly part one .All the structure of organization ,work planning , discipline and other experience can make me understand more about the training itself is all about. The input that I got was very useful tome acquired to my gold in the training which is to get a lot of knowledge and experience. So, in the future I will have the better understanding and ability to handle or manage all situations at the work place. The importance thing is how to maintain the good relation between the worker and the management staff. For the conclusion, I hope this report can be as the source of the reference to the other especially to part one now, which will hold their own practical training soon.

1.3 HISTORY OF DPIM Dpim program was first introduced in 1969 at Jalan Othman, Kuala Lumpur. It was introduced by Prof. Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan. After the first introduction, it was subsequently relocated to the Shah Alam campus before it is moved to Arau Campus in Perlis in 1975. DPIM was initiated in UiTM Pahang by Prof. Haji Abdul Kadir bin Hassan. At first, DPIM course in Pahang Campus was held only at Bukit Sekilau in Kuantan. Only after Jengka campus is opened in 1993, it’s moved to Jengka Campus. Altogether, only 4 campuses offer this course – Jengka, Arau, Sabah and Sarawak branch. While for the degree program, it’s only offered at Shah Alam campus. The objective of this program is to train students the basics of agricultural science and knowledge and can be applied for assistant manager holders in agricultural based industries such as plantation; agricultural business and others related field or assistant research officer in agricultural research institution. Students are taught course related to basic and agricultural sciences and business management with special emphasis on modern agricultural and management principles and practices. In addition to attending lecturers and field works, and conducting laboratory experiments on campus, students are also required to undergo four sessions of practical training in plantation, agricultural institution, and agricultural business organization during semester vacations lasting at least four weeks each.

2.3 Nursery

Common name Pinang penawar Pinang sireh Pinang kuning Coconut Gebang Princess palm Oil palm Palas kipas Serdang cina

A nursery is a place where plant are propagated and grow to usable size. There are retail nurseries which sell to the general public, wholesale nurseries which sell only to other nurseries and to commercial landscape gardeners, and private nurseries which supply the needs of institutions or private estates. Some retail and wholesale nurseries sell by mail. Nurseries grow annual, perennials, and woody plant (trees and shrub). These have a variety of uses: decorative plants for flower gardening and landscaping, garden vegetable plants, and agricultural plants. Nurseries often grow plants in a greenhouse, a building of glass or in plastic tunnels, designed to protect young plants from harsh weather (especially frost), while allowing access to light and ventilation. Modern greenhouse allow automated control of temperature, ventilation and light and semi-automated watering and feeling. Some also have fold-back roofs to allow “hindering-off “ of plants without the need for manual transfer to outdoor beds. Some nurseries specialize in one phase of the process: propagation, growing out, or retail sale; or in one type of plants: groundcovers, shade plants, fruit trees, or rock garden plants. Plants may be propagated by seeds, but not often desirable cultivars are propagated asexually by budding, grafting, layering, or other nursery techniques.

2.4

Field Maintenance

2.4.1 Circle Weeding

We make circle weeding to: •

To make sure that weed did not fight for minerals with tree because when it happen, the tree will die.

To make sure the tree gets enough sunlight to grow well because sunlight is very important for it to growing up.

To give support to small tree to grow well

To make easier way for fertilizer absorb in soil

It can make easier to use to manure the tree as well as it can.

Instruction •

Identified the important weed and first step hoe to control weeds

Choose suitable method of dictation

Clear the weed that grows near the plant.

Method •

Circle weeding - take out the tree about two feet from tree canopy

Mounting - dig the soil around the plant and pile up around the plant

Implement system - using the cutter to control the weeds growth

Slashing - save time and labour cost

Methods of weed control

Traditionally by hand labour, then sodium chlorate was introduced for the control of lalang. Hand forking and hand splashing also used to eradicate lalang, creepers and shrubby growth.

Herbicides will give better and longer lasting control under such condition and lower rates of chemicals are required then under full sunlight. Contact herbicides will have only a short-lived effect, and translocated herbisides will be needed to kill the root.  Paraquat is absorbed on to the foliage at spraying and is unaffected by subsequent rainfall  Dalapon and glyphosate, require several hours for full absorption by the leaf and their effectiveness can be impaired rainfull.

Objective of weeding 1. Make pruning activities easier 2. it may avoid from any dangerous animals 3. it makes compound clean and clear 4. it can make the plant grow more complete 5. it may destroy all unneeded grasses 6. it can make manuring activities easy to handle

2.4.2 Manuring

Manuring is an important task it’s providing a source of nutrient to plant to grow and have a better chance to survive. Plant usually needs many types of nutrient to complete its life. The important nutrients for plant are Carbon dioxide, Oxygen, Calcium, Nitrogen, Sulphur and Magnesium. Manuring means to apply manure to (land, soil, etc) and to enrich (soil) with a fertilizing substance. It usually uses various traditional methods to improve soil quality thereby increasing the long-term fertility of the soil. The supply of nutrients is met mainly by compost-green manure produces in the backyards of our farmers and the surrounding farms.

Objective of manuring  To make fruit growing better  To cater of nutrient the tree  To give mineral to the plant Method:  Do not spray on the leaf because it can make the leaf die  Manure the fertilizer like a circle or follow the canopy plant  It’s distant is 2 feet from the canopy of tree  The look form earth a surface and also soil

Suitable Time for Manuring  when the ground is weed  follow the schedule or manuring the plant Time That Not Encourage  during dry season because the fertilizer cannot diffuse into the ground  during the flower are get out

Green Manuring Green manures comprise plant crops grown on a given soil to a certain stage of development before being ploughed under, will still green. Both leguminous and nonleguminous plants are utilized for this purpose. Leguminous crops are cultivated widely in a variety of agro- climatic zones in the tropic and subtropics. The plant used for green manuring are high in water- soluble constituents, in nitrogen and other nutrient element but are comparatively low in cellulose and lignin. As very rapidly. This is accompanied by rapid liberation of the nitrogen and other nutrient element in available forms. Humus is also produced in this process. As the plants grow older, their ash and nitrogen contents decrease and their cellulose and lignin contents increase.

The main benefits of green manuring are;  maintaining carbon and nitrogen accumulation;  reduction of nutrient elements leaching;  reduction of soil erosion;  improving water utilization;  providing aeration of the soil;  weed and pest control;

Providing cost saving in the crop rotation as a result of lowering fertilizer use, improving nutrient element utilization, easier cultivation and reducing plant protection requirement.
