FROM THE PEW: It is with much excitement and joy that I introduce myself as the new High School Youth Director at St. Andrew’s! Having graduated with a degree in Theology and Religious Education from Franciscan University, I have enjoyed over 8 years of work in youth ministry, including 6 years as the Youth Director at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Duluth. Working with teens is my passion and I have missed it immensely since taking time off to be home with my two little red-headed twins, Magdalene and Micah. Now having been offered the opportunity to lead the teens of St. Andrew’s, I am ready to jump back on board and do not come alone – as when you get me, you get my family! We are a team and are excited to kickoff a great year of youth ministry! Often times you hear the statement that the youth of today are the Church’s future. Well, as Pope John Paul II stated, the youth are not just the future, but they are more importantly our present. My goal for our youth ministry program is to engage the teens in an educational, spiritual, fun, loving, and safe environment in which they will be challenged to grow and become a part of the life of this Church and the life of their community like never before. Teens will be invited to join us on Sunday evenings after Mass for “Lifenites” where we will dive deep into hot topics of the Church of today while falling in love with the tradition of its past. Confirmation preparation will be a strong driving force of the program, but not without lots of “extras” along the way. Coming your way will be “Pizza and Prayer” on Wednesday evenings, various service projects on the weekends, fund raisers to help build team comradere and raise money for our retreats and summer trips, and much, much more! We will be kicking off this year’s program on Sunday October 4th after the Teen Mass. All high-school teens are invited to join us in the Family Center for a great first night of the year! Confirmation Parent meetings have been postponed and will be announced soon so please keep your eyes on the bulletin for updates and more information! To help build and make this program run smoothly and successfully, we rely largely on volunteers and are actively recruiting adults and college students who love working with teens to prayerfully consider joining us on our Core Team. There are many areas of help we will need, including food preparation on Sunday nights, small group leaders, trained catechists to give presentations at our Lifenites, drivers for service projects and activities, and much more. Please contact me if you are interested or would like more information on how to become involved in this tremendously rewarding ministry! Thank you in advance for your prayers and support. I look forward to walking this incredible faith journey with the teens of this parish and getting to know all of you in the process! In the words of St. Paul, “ Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!” ….For the Greater Glory of God! In His Peace, Cassi Villanueva [email protected]
