BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF TAMPA BAY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES STEINBRENNER METRO SERVICE CENTER August 13, 2009 Members Present: Eddie Gomez, Dan Hevia, Vic Holcomb, Scott Jacobsen, Shelley Kolseth, Ian MacKechnie, Don Smith. Others Present: Brad Baumgardner, Brenda Browning, Anne Carney, Todd Cole, Chris Harrell, De’Anna Irizarry, Chris Letsos, Lisa Richardson, Bill Ross, Detective Marc Wilder. Chairman Holcomb called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m. Chairman Holcomb introduced De’Anna Irizarry, our HYPE Coordinator who introduced Detective Marc Wilder of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Gang Prevention Unit. Det. Wilder showed a film on the types of people that join gangs and they are of all races, ages and occupations. He stated BGCTB is ahead of the game with our HYPE Program. There are 30K active gangs in the US and over 1 million members. In 2009, there are 1,000 active gangs in Florida with 177 of them in Hillsborough County alone with over 4,300 charter members, ages 7 to 80. The fastest growing members are white female, ages 14 – 16. Florida rates #2 in drive by shootings. California was 1st. Det. Wilder handed out information on gang symbols and language. He answered questions from the board after his presentation. If gang symbols show up in your neighborhood, the best thing is to record it, report it, then remove it. Consent Items There was no discussion needed regarding the June 11, 2009 Minutes or the July 2009 Financial Report. Scott Jacobsen made a motion to approve, Shelley Kolseth second, motion passed. Strategic Initiatives Todd Cole passed out information on events going on at the different clubs. He reported we have 22 youth at our Windermere apartment location in Riverview. We had 22 youth take a field trip to Cape Canaveral and met an astronaut. Lisa Richardson reported we will be restarting our Chairman’s Lunch in the fall. Our One Club, that was launched in March, has received $62K from 33 donors, 11 are first time donors. We raised enough for the Conn Foundation match and had 15 new donors. Kellen Winslow, with the Buccaneers, would like to hold a Gala event for us. Anne Carney reported on the Steak Dinner. This year we plan to make it a fun event for the kids with more interaction between the kids and guests. We hope to have Coach Dungy to have some one on one time with the kids right before the dinner. Our goal for this year is $200K. We have several new table sponsors and plan to have 5 very cool item packages for the raffle/chance drawing. She urged everyone to buy a table and if they couldn’t do that, to try to buy tickets.

Executive Committee Meeting August 13, 2009 Page 2 Presidents Report Brad Baumgardner spoke about the upcoming Florida Area Council meeting, August 20th – 22nd in St. Pete. He announced that Vic will be receiving the Board Member of the Year for the State of Florida. The Riverview zoning was approved. The next step is to have the plans drawn, and permitting completed. We still need $1.5 MIL for operating. Our Budget is at a $140K - $141K deficit. We have a meeting planned with the Foundation to ask for additional funds. Information regarding Strategic Planning on October 2 & 3 is being sent out along with a questionnaire that should be returned to Lynn. The Advanced Leadership Project is moving forward and we want to change the perception that we’re more than an after school program. Our message is Impact, Hope, Opportunity. Lisa Richardson showed everyone the new video. With no other business, Vic adjourned the meeting at 1:10 pm.
