Auditions for Mugged by Andrew Payne Directed by Natalie Ibu LYT’s show for the Lyceum Connect Festival Mugged is a fast paced, relevant piece which gives the opportunity for really good character work and storytelling. As part of the Mugged cast you will get: •

To experience the rehearsal and performance process, working with a professional director as part of a company

To perform a run of the show in an external venue in March 2010 to a public audience

To perform on the Lyceum stage in June 2010 as part of the Lyceum Connect festival, alongside other youth theatres and schools

Rehearsals will take place in addition to weekly LYT sessions, on Friday evenings and include a professional company style rehearsal week in the February half term with full day rehearsals. The cast will get to work with a range of theatre professionals, with set, costume and technical support. The cost to take part is £180, which would be payable at the end of January 2010.

Mugged info and synopsis Mugged is a simple plot on the surface but the story underneath is complex. It gives us the opportunity to do what LYT does best, tell stories and show characters through extremely strong acting. It also presents an opportunity for detailed character work and to create a very real, very alive piece of theatre which will have a strong impact on the audience. Mugged "How do you tell the truth? About what actually happened? You know tell the actual truth." A seemingly ordinary morning turns into a devastating experience for a group of pupils when their walk to school becomes the site of a violent theft. Written by Andrew Payne, Mugged presents a hard hitting analysis of truth, friendship and the media. A seemingly straightforward crime becomes shrouded in ambiguity and confusion. The characters all find themselves having to deal with their feelings of guilt and as a result the truth becomes harder to pin down. Synopsis Every morning, a group of schoolkids meet up on their way to school. And every morning they are faced with the same dilemma: take the short cut to school across the park and risk running into the muggers, or go the long way round and risk being late. Marky and Dig, who are friends, are the youngest and smallest of the group. When Soph, one of the girls, has her phone stolen, Marky thinks he recognises one of the muggers. He volunteers to retrieve Soph's phone for her, but it goes horribly wrong. He is stabbed by the mugger and killed. Dig wants to go to the police, but the others persuade him not to. The phone didn't actually belong to Soph in the first place and they're afraid the muggers will come back and exact retribution if they tell. Marky is presented in the press and media as a mugger and gang member. Dig wrestles with his conscience. To save his dead friend's reputation, he must tell the truth, but that means risking retribution from the muggers, and anger from his friends...
