Perhentian Island, Terengganu • Meaning ‘stopover' in Malay. Rantau Abang • Rantau is 60 km south of Kuala Terengganu, the beach where the famous giant leatherback turtles come ashore each year from May to September to lay their eggs and hatch the young turtles. • These turtles can grow to 2.5m long and weigh some 375 kg. • The best time to turtlewatch is at full moon and during high tide.
