What a privilege it was to baptize Gram and Jennifer Short! I am thankful for their commitment to our family of faith and I pray we will continue to welcome them with open arms. Our church is growing and God is sending us individuals and families to help us advance the Gospel of Jesus to Hamilton and beyond. If you have been absent lately, I want to encourage you to get back involved as God is doing great things in the life of our church. Our Youth Minister – Eric – reported there were over 200 at our first 5th Quarter Fellowship a couple of weeks ago after the Hamilton Bulldog football game. We look forward to this Friday as our Student Ministry continues with a concert series for the 5th Quarter Fellowships. I know Eric would love to have you come and volunteer this Friday and help chaperone these students as they are enriched by good Christian music. Thanks for getting involved and helping out with this vital ministry of FBC. Also, our Sunday night Bible study for students kicked off last night at two host homes. ‘Portico’ is the name of this event that is happening for junior high and senior high students. I hope if you know a student who needs to be fed the word of the Lord you will make sure they know about this ministry. Maybe they need a ride – maybe they just need a little encouragement – maybe they need a phone call or card from you to get them involved. I pray we will do all we can to point students to Christ this fall. I’m thankful for Eric and his efforts to do this. Let’s pray for him, the Youth Ministry Committee, and all the students during this school year.

♫ MUSIC MINISTRY ♫ I would like to thank the church for being so understanding in my need to return home this weekend. As I have said, my best friend is getting married and I could not imagine missing this special day. It will also be nice to get to see my friends and family. I will admit that I am a little homesick, but this church is quickly becoming a new home for me. Being a part of a local worshipping congregation has greatly helped in my transition. One of my hopes and aspirations as a Minister of Music is to do my best to inform God’s people of the messages of the songs that they sing. Therefore, I plan on using the weekly newsletter article to accomplish this task. I would ask that you would read these articles and spend a few minutes reflecting upon the lyrics to a hymn that will be sung in worship the upcoming Sunday. One of the hymns that will be sung in worship this week is the hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness”. Thomas Chisholm was born in the small town of Franklin, KY in 1866. He came to faith at the age 22 and shortly was ordained as a Methodist minister. Chisholm was soon forced to resign because of health issues, which would plague him the rest of his life. He later became a life insurance agent and in 1941 wrote these words, “My income has not been large at any time due to impaired health, but I must not fail to record here the unfailing faithfulness of a covenant-keeping God, for which I am filled with astonishing gratefulness.”
LOOK OUT!... Here They Come! Last Wednesday morning at 7am our students and community gathered outside Hamilton High school at the flag pole to watch the sunrise and for See You At the Pole (SYATP) 2009. We had over 75 people in attendance for this special time of student led worship and prayer. This year’s theme was the story of Josiah found in 2 Kings 22-23. This was a time to call our students to leadership following the example of the boy king in Scripture. Special thanks go out to the members of First Baptist Church, St. John Lutheran Church, and the First United Methodist Church for providing doughnuts, juice and paper goods for our students and teachers! Thank you for your support of this very important ministry and opportunity to minister to our students. On another note, PORTICO, our student small groups, kicked off the first meeting for the fall last Sunday evening. We had 20 students come out for a time of fellowship, scripture, discussion, and some great food! This year we are investigating five parables from the gospels and how they relate to our lives. Special thanks go to the Ingram and Elkins families for hosting our students for this time of fellowship!! Our next Portico will be Oct. 11th at the same locations. I pray that you will become involved in this very worthwhile ministry for our students. Our Sunday morning Bible study has also seen an increase over the last couple of weeks. We are beginning a new study of the book Adventures in Missing the Point written by Brian McLaren and Tony Campolo. We are having a great time discussing where we miss the point in how we view salvation, the Bible, and other aspects of our faith. You don’t want to miss out on this opportunity to join us in our discussion. This Sunday Eric will provide doughnuts and juice for our students! Come for the fellowship and enjoy the food as we continue our journey through this challenging and profitable book! In His Grip, Eric Coleman (cont’d)- Music Ministry Pray for this Sunday’s service and pray that the words to this wonderful hymn would open our eyes to see that “All I have needed, Thy hand hath provided”. Think about the many ways that God has been faithful to you and your family. Let’s proclaim in worship this week the phrase, Great is Thy Faithfulness!

Our Sympathy and Prayers. Our love and support, sympathy and prayers go out to the family of Helen Holley, whose father, Robert Jones, went to be with Christ this past week. We join together as a family of faith and pray for this family as we celebrate Christ’s gift of eternal life.
