From the Shepherd’s Shop‹ Shop‹ by Pastor Keith Felton On October 28, we will have our regularly scheduled quarterly Business Meeting in the Sanctuary at 6pm. I hope all of us will make it top priority to be present. The Nominating Committee will bring to the church their recommendation for filling one of the positions for Trustee. Article 10 of our Bylaws talks about this role: Trustees: The Church will elect three (3) Trustees to act as agents for the church subject to the provision of this section, or specific authority granted by the church at a regular business meeting. Each Trustee shall serve for a term of two (2) years and until his or her successor is elected. The Nominating Committee will nominate church members for the office of Trustees at a regular business meeting, and the church may provide for rotation of terms. Trustees will be elected by a majority of those members present and voting at a regular business meeting in which their names are placed in nomination. Trustees may serve successive terms. Trustees are formally designated to execute the legal responsibilities of the church any two (2) of whom may act. The Trustees will sign any and all promissory notes after the church votes to borrow money from any financial source for the support of the church programs. Any other legal transactions approved by the congregation, such as, but not limited to, execution of Deeds and/or any other legal instruments required for the purchase or disposal of real property by the church will be signed by the Trustees, any two (2) of whom may act. One of our Trustees has resigned after serving many faithful years in this role. The Nominating Committee has met and discussed their recommendation. They will be recommending JON MARK JESTER to take on the duties of Trustee, who has agreed to serve, if affirmed by the church. We have many in our church who would certainly qualify for this important role – with that being said, I believe Jon Mark is an excellent candidate for Trustee.

(Cont’d - Shepherd Shop) Another important item on this Business Meeting’s agenda is a recommendation from our Children’s Ministry Committee. They will be presenting their suggestion for toddler area playground equipment which will be designated as a memorial to Tillie Treadway, who served over forty years in the children’s Sunday school department of FBC. ‘Tillie’s Place’ will be a lasting tribute to one of FBC’s finest and I look forward to seeing it’s completion. Although we have collected a significant amount for ‘Tillie’s Place’, we are still a little short for the needed funds for the equipment. We will be setting a date for a ‘special offering’ to take care of the final costs. Eric and our Youth Ministry Committee provided another awesome 5th Quarter for students after the game Friday night. ‘Trade Cities’ performed a concert and a load of students enjoyed their message in song. We had a partner host with St John’s Lutheran Church providing and serving the food. I’m thankful our churches can work together to achieve one goal in reaching students for Christ.

LOOK OUT!... Here They Come! Whew!... Three down with one to go! Our third 5th Quarter in our 2009 concert series was a huge success last Friday night. We had an awsome time hanging out with the band Trade Cities and enjoyed some rocking worship. This year’s 5th Quarters have been a blast and I pray that everyone that has come to help has enjoyed them. Our students have loved the bands that we have sponsored and we are looking forward to bringing Await the Day on Oct. 30th for our final 5th Quarter of the year. If you have not had the opportunity to get involved, there is still time and we still need volunteers to help! Let me know if you would like to help with this awesome ministry for our students. On another note, special thanks are expressed to the members of St. John Lutheran Church and their youth committee. They provided the food for our last 5th Quarter and brought a number of volunteers to stay and help with the event. Be sure to thank our sister church for their help with this event! The First United Methodist Church will be providing our food for our last 5th Quarter and we need some help! Secondly, thanks to all the parents who helped with ‘Fields of Faith’ and allowed their students to come out to worship on the football field last Wednesday night. The band CHANEY lead us in worship and provided a concert for our students. We had a special time of student testimonies and prayer. The band was sponsored by St. John Lutheran Church, First United Methodist Church, and First Baptist Church! Thanks for the willingness and spirit of community that all these churches expressed in our efforts to reach the students of our community. Also, special thanks to Valarie Brooks and the HHS FCAS for hosting this event and needs to be recognized. Further, very special thanks go to Jamie Weaver for his role as our sound tech for the event. We are blessed to have such talented and sacrificial members that tirelessly give their time and effort to our student ministry. We have had a great year so far, and there is still more to come. Stay tuned for more student events and opportunities to get involved in student ministry at FBC!! In His Grip, Eric Coleman
