From the Shepherd’s Shop‹ Shop‹ by Pastor Keith Felton What a privilege it was to be a part of the wedding of George and Robin Chambers on Sunday! Please pray for the newlyweds as they embark on what I believe to be a sacred journey of marriage. God has great things in store for these two. I’m thankful they are a part of our family of faith here at First Baptist Church. This Sunday we celebrate the Lord’s Supper together. I pray we will all make a commitment to be a part of this special time in the life of our church as we remember Christ’s death. Invite someone to FBC so they can hear about the saving grace found in Jesus Christ our Lord. What a fantastic 5th Quarter Fellowship for students this past Friday night! A Christian Rap artist by the name of Derrick Fury was here and he had a great message for our youth. There were a great number of students at the Youth & Family Life Center and also a healthy amount of adult volunteers. I’m thankful for Eric, our Youth Ministry Committee, and all of those adults who stayed up late to provide the students of our church and this community a place to fellowship and hear from the Lord.

LOOK OUT!... Here They Come! Whew! Another 5th Quarter accomplished and another great night of ministry! Last Friday night we had close to 100 high school students come out for our second concert featuring Derrick Fury. Derrick, who hails from the Houston area, is a Christian hip-hop performer who speaks to current issues that plague our students. One recurrent theme of his songs is that of struggles. Derrick proclaims that we all have struggles in our lives. These struggles are peer pressure, choices, financial difficulties, family problems, and many others. However, unlike mainstream music which casts these struggles in a negative light, Derrick focuses on the positive aspect of struggles. He states in his song ‘Struggles,’ the hardship he has faced has shaped him into the person he is today. These hardships have served to strengthen his faith and resolve as a man of God. What are you struggling with today? This month? This year? How are you defining your struggles? Are you focusing solely on the negative hardships? We all face struggles everyday. However, we all do not approach and deal with our struggles in the same way. Try this week to shift your focus and try to find the good in your struggles. Examine what you are going through and instead of asking ‘why is this happening to me?’ ask yourself the question ‘how can I use this to bring glory to God?’ which is the ultimate question after all. It is when we engage in this refocusing of our struggles and turn our eyes upon Jesus that the things of this earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.
