SEC Athletes of the Week Swimming & Diving Week 2: Oct. 27, 2009 Female Swimmer of the Week Yi-Ting Siow, Sr. Arkansas
Arkansas swimmer Yi-Ting Siow picked up victories in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200y breaststroke and 400y individual medley to lead the Razorbacks to a split in their doubledual meet against Florida and Kansas on Saturday at Arkansas Natatorium. Siow touched in at 1:01.63 seconds to finish first in the 100y breaststroke, improving on her time from last weekend by one-tenth of a second. The time continues to lead the nation. Siow swept the breaststroke events by winning the 200y breaststroke in 2:13.93. The senior clinched her third event of the meet when she turned in a time of 4:21.63 in the 400y IM.
Female Diver of the Week Kara Salamone, Sr. Florida
Kara Salamone won the three-meter with a score of 314.90 and finished second on the one-meter with a score of 289.85 at the SMU Classic this past weekend. Salamone qualified for the 2010 Zone Diving Championships with her respective scores. She was one of only nine members of the UF women’s squad to represent the Gators at the two-day SMU Classic in Dallas. She holds the top scores on the one and three-meter springboards for the Gators so far this season
Female Freshman of the Week Jamie Bohunicky Florida
Was one of nine Gators representing UF at the SMU Classic in Dallas, where the Gators won against five other NCAAcaliber teams. Bohunicky secured an NCAA provisional mark in the 500 free (4:51.52) with her event win. Swam the second-fastest 200 fly and 200 free at the meet, finishing first in the second heat in both events. SEC Athletes of the Week Swimming & Diving Week 2: Oct. 27, 2009 Male Swimmer of the Week Ricky Henahan Tennessee Schenectady, N.Y.
Tennessee sophomore Ricky Henahan was the star of the Vols’ dual-meet at Louisville. The Schenectady, N.Y., native won the 100 backstroke with a Louisville pool-record time of 48.06. With this mark, Henahan now leads the SEC and the NCAA in the 100 backstroke. In the 200 back, Henahan was beat out at the wall, finishing second at 1:48.99. This time is strong enough for third in the SEC. After breaking one Ralph Wright Natatorium record, Henahan contributed two more in both of the Vols’ winning relay efforts. Henahan led the 400 free relay team to a second-ranked SEC time of 3:01.04 and the 200 medley relay to a fourthplace SEC time of 1:30.00.
Male Diver of the Week Ryan Helms Tennessee
Remaining perfect on the year, Vols’ sophomore-standout diver Ryan Helms swept the diving competition at Louisville. His win on the one-meter came behind a seasonbest performance of 327.20, which ranks third in the SEC. Helms earned the sweep with a 371.02 score on the threemeter. He is currently the SEC’s leader in the three-meter event.
Male Freshman of the Week Craig Hamilton LSU Edinburgh, Scotland
Craig Hamilton swept the 1000- and 500-yard freestyle events for the second-straight meet, winning both races against the defending national champion Auburn Tigers. The Edinburgh, Scotland, product registered a personal-best time of 9:22.42 in the 1000 free and a winning time of 4:34.79 in the 500 free. His mark in the 1000 free is the fifth-fastest in school history. The freshman remains undefeated in both events this season.
