Rules to be followed inside the Lab



The lab is open at the times indicated and the students are expected to attend the lab as per their schedule.



Students should sign in the Log Register before occupying their respective booths.



Lab Computers are used for language learning purpose only.



Eating or drinking is not permitted in the lab.



Students are not allowed to use mobile phones, play music or games in the lab.



Students who fail to log out by the end of the session will not get attendance for that period.



Lab/college personnel reserve the right to monitor all computer related activities performed by students within the Language Lab with the use of the latest monitoring software technology.



Trying to overhaul the headphone / mouse is strictly condemned. Don’t remove or disconnect any labels, parts or cables.



Do not install any software, or modify or delete any system files on any lab computer.



Doubts related to the usage of any of the Language packages must be clarified with the Lab-in-charge immediately.



If there is a problem that cannot be resolved by the student it must be reported to the Lab-in-charge



Do not run programs that continue to execute after you log off.



Do not shut down or turn off any computer in the lab without approval from the staff.

READING COMPREHENSION The pioneers of the teaching of science imagined that its introduction into education would remove the conventionality, artificiality, and backward-lookingness which were characteristic of classical studies, but they were gravely disappointed. So, too, in their time had the humanists thought that the study of the classical authors in the original would banish at once the dull pedantry and superstition of mediaeval scholasticism. The professional schoolmaster was a match for both of them, and has almost managed to make the understanding of chemical reactions as dull and as dogmatic an affair as the reading of Virgil's Aeneid. The chief claim for the use of science in education is that it teaches a child

something about the actual universe in which he is living, in making him acquainted with the results of scientific discovery, and at the same time teaches him how to think logically and inductively by studying scientific method. A certain limited success has been reached in the first of these aims, but practically none at all in the second. Those privileged members of the community who have been through a secondary or public school education may be expected to know something about the elementary physics and chemistry of a hundred years ago, but they probably know hardly more than any bright boy can pick up from an interest in wireless or scientific hobbies out of school hours. As to the learning of scientific method, the whole thing is palpably a farce. Actually, for the convenience of teachers and the requirements of the examination system, it is necessary that the pupils not only do not learn scientific method but learn precisely the reverse, that is, to believe exactly what they are told and to reproduce it when asked, whether it seems nonsense to them or not. The way in which educated people respond to such quackeries as spiritualism or astrology, not to say more dangerous ones such as racial theories or currency myths, shows that fifty years of education in the method of science in Britain or Germany has produced no visible effect whatever. The only way of learning the method of science is the long and bitter way of personal experience, and, until the educational or social systems are altered to make this possible, the best we can expect is the production of a minority of people who are able to acquire some of the techniques of science and a still smaller minority who are able to use and develop them. 1. a norm or criterion, or occasionally both. The norm may be established independently, or by statistical analysis of a large number of subjects. A standardized test is one that is administered and scored in a consistent matter to ensure legal defensibility. A large proportion of formal testing is standardized. A standardized test with important consequences for the individual examinee is referred to as a high stakes test. The basic component of a test is an item, which are stored in an item bank. It was originally conceived as a wireless alternative to RS232 data cables. It can connect several devices, overcoming problems of synchronization. The implication is that Bluetooth does the same with communications protocols, uniting them into one universal standard

Origin of the Bluetooth logo The Bluetooth logo design merges the Germanic runes analogous to the modern Latin letters H and B: (for Harald Bluetooth) forming a bind rune.

Implementation Bluetooth uses a radio technology called frequency-hopping spread spectrum, which chops up the data being sent and transmits chunks of it on up to 79 frequencies. Bluetooth makes it possible for these devices to communicate with each other when they are in range. Because the devices use a radio (broadcast) communications system, they do not have to be in line of sight of each other. Bluetooth profiles In order to use Bluetooth, a device must be compatible with certain Bluetooth profiles. These define the possible applications and uses of the technology. Bluetooth devices Bluetooth exists in many products, such as telephones, the Wii, PlayStation 3, Lego Mindstorms NXT and recently in some high definition watches, modems and headsets. The technology is useful when transferring information between two or more devices that are near each other in low-bandwidth situations. Bluetooth is commonly used to transfer sound data with telephones (i.e. with a Bluetooth headset) or byte data with hand-held computers (transferring files).

Bluetooth protocols simplify the discovery and setup of services between devices. Bluetooth devices can advertise all of the services they provide. This makes using services easier because more of the security, network address and permission configuration can be automated than with many other network types. Wi-Fi Wi-Fi is more like a traditional Ethernet network, and requires configuration to set up shared resources, transmit files, and to set up audio links (for example, headsets and hands-free devices). Wi-Fi uses the same radio frequencies as Bluetooth, but with higher power, resulting in a stronger connection. Wi-Fi is sometimes called "wireless Ethernet." This description is accurate, as it also provides an indication of its relative strengths and weaknesses. Wi-Fi requires more setup but is better suited for operating full-scale networks; it enables a faster connection, better range from the base station, and better security than Bluetooth. Computer requirements A personal computer must have a Bluetooth adapter in order to communicate with other Bluetooth devices (such as mobile phones, mice and keyboards). While some desktop computers and most recent laptops come with a built-in Bluetooth adapter, others will require an external one in the form of a dongle. Unlike its predecessor, IrDA, which requires a separate adapter for each device, Bluetooth allows multiple devices to communicate with a computer over a single adapter. Operating system support Apple has supported Bluetooth since Mac OS X v10.2 which was released in 2002. For Microsoft platforms, Windows XP Service Pack 2 and later releases have native support for Bluetooth. Previous versions required users to install their Bluetooth adapter's own drivers, which were not directly supported by Microsoft. Microsoft's own Bluetooth dongles (packaged with their Bluetooth computer devices) have no external drivers and thus require at least Windows XP Service Pack 2. Linux has two popular Bluetooth stacks, BlueZ and Affix. The BlueZ[9] stack is included with most Linux kernels and was originally developed by Qualcomm. The Affix stack was developed byNokia. FreeBSD features Bluetooth support since its 5.0 release. NetBSD features Bluetooth support since its 4.0 release. Its Bluetooth stack has been ported to OpenBSD as well.

Mobile phone requirements A mobile phone that is Bluetooth enabled is able to pair with many devices. To ensure the broadest support of feature functionality together with legacy device support, the OMTP forum has recently published a recommendations paper, entitled "Bluetooth Local Connectivity"; see external links below to download this paper. This publication recommends two classes, Basic and Advanced, with requirements that cover imaging, printing, stereo audio and in-car usage. Specifications and features The Bluetooth specification was developed in 1994 by Jaap Haartsen and Sven Mattisson, who were working for Ericsson Mobile Platforms inLund, Sweden..The specification is based on frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology. Recommendations to prevent damage in spite of adversarial attacks

BACKGROUND: The generic name for the collection of tools designed to protect the data from the hackers is Computer security. Networks security measures are needed to protect the data during transmission. Cryptography refers almost exclusively to encryption. The process of converting ordinary information (plaintext) into unintelligible gibberish (i.e., ciphertext) Decryption is the reverse, moving from unintelligible ciphertext to plaintext. A cipher (or cypher) is a pair of algorithms which creates the encryption and the reversing decryption. The detailed operation of a cipher is controlled both by the algorithm and, in each instance, by a key. PROCEDURES: All encryption algorithms are based on two general principles: Substitution in which each element in the plain text are mapped into another element. Transposition in which elements in the plain text are rearranged. The fundamental requirement is that no information to be lost. Most systems referred to as product systems involve multiple stages of substitution and transposition. If both the sender and receiver use the same key, the system is referred to as symmetric, single key, secret key or conventional encryption. If the sender and receiver each use a different key, the system is referred to as asymmetric or public key encryption.

The plaintext (bit, letter, group of bits or letters)is given as input to the encryption algorithm. The output is the ciphertext(coded message)is transmitted to the decryption algorithm to on the receiver side to get the original message.

Hash function algorithm is applied to a block of data of any size which produces a fixed length output. It makes both hardware and software implementations more practical. RESULTS: Cryptography is a method for providing network security. It results in data confidentiality. Data confidentiality is the protection of transmitted data from passive attacks. In the context of network security access control is the ability to limit and control the access to host systems and applications via communication links. The goal of cryptanalysis is to find some weakness or insecurity in a cryptographic scheme, thus permitting its subversion or evasion. The purpose of the hash function is to produce a finger print of a file, message or other block of data. DISCUSSIONS: The results clearly indicate that cryptography is the important mean to provide security to the data transmitted over the network from sender to the receiver. It is widely used in operating systems like APPLE, MICROSOFT, NOVELL and SUN. It is also used in hardware like cell phones, Atm machines and wireless Ethernet cards. CONCLUSION: Thus the cryptography provides way to transfer confidential files and data without being invaded by the hackers. This helps a lot for the government and the military. RECOMMENDATIONS: In view of the development of global information and communications networks and the need to ensure concerted solutions, efforts should be made to transfer file or data in the secured manner.
