I’m Leonor Tulleres. I made VISE I at “COGGZAI” primary school, which is located in Belloto Centro, Quilpué; the city where I live. I had to work in the class of Miss Teresa Loyola, which was for 6th graders. The age of children went from 10 to 12 years old, they were usually playing around and yelling, but they were respectful with their teacher and me. Miss Teresa was always worried about her class, she wanted to teach and guide as well. She has spent most of her life as a teacher, which was important for me. She answered all of my questions. For that time I was pregnant of my second daughter, so sometimes I felt tired because of the heat and the movement at school and the classroom. Children were very nice with me; they even started to come up with names for my baby. Teachers were nice with me. They let me enter in “their world” and participate with them at the activities of recreation. Also they gave me breakfast every morning and they were always worried about me and my baby. I could observe that people in the school were very united and they helped each other. This school doesn’t have a main religion or political stand, so every point of view is important and relevant for them. A particular situation happened when the teacher left me alone with the class in order to get some files. Children got bored and started jelling and fighting. The three main questions I asked myself were: What shall I do now? Should I be yelling to them too? Which activity could I do with the kids? I thought; what would I want if I were a kid in this situation? I decided to occupy the time to know the class better. I called the kids one by one using the list of the class and started to ask them questions like; how old are you? Where do you live? Which is your favorite meal? Do you have any pets? And etc, I also introduced myself using this topics. Children liked the conversation and when the teacher arrived the class was ready to continue with the study. I could answer to my questions: You have to be calm and self-confident to deal with kids. You don’t need to yell if you show respect and discipline. You can do interesting activities with children if you prepare them before. I think this helped me to know how to deal with tense situations and also made me realize that I’m a very patient person, which means I’m capable of becoming a teacher. I really enjoyed the experience and the practice in its all.
