b. Textbooks and reading matter Recommended textbooks Chemistry 1 – Cambridge University Press – 0 521 78778 5 Chemistry - Collins Advanced Science - 0 00 713597 1 We also recommend you buy a good Chemical dictionary and an AS revision book. There are now AS revisions books available especially for the course. I strongly recommend obtaining these books before September Students should also support their studies by reading from a wide range of material. Students could also keep a scrapbook of relevant articles from newspapers. c. Visits These may be arranged during the course to local sites and institutes. Although not compulsory they are strongly recommended. Students would be expected to cover the cost of transport and where necessary entry to establishments. Section 5 Miscellaneous a. Progression A good AS level grade will ensure entry to the A2 course in year 13. A good Advanced level grade will ensure entry to a wide variety of chemically related courses at Higher Education and for subsequent career opportunities. b. Monitoring Progress At the end of each topic within a module a test will be taken. A % and grade will be awarded and students will be asked to reflect upon their performance. In addition to this the normal school procedures for assessment, recording and reporting will be followed. c. Health and Safety Health and safety regulations should be read and adhered to at all times i.e. read the laboratory rules displayed in each lab and any hazcards displayed with certain experiments.
