Artificial Heart Darling, I gave you my heart That was overflowing 'Twas so full, it broke apart And now its pain is showing. You took all of those feelings That it once held for you Turned them into, empty things And now it’s colored blue. I took it to the doctor He said, "It's beyond repair I don't think we have a cure. It's worn out, doesn't care." "It must've been treated badly It's all tattered and torn And the only chance I see is To replace it, in the morn." So, they took the old one out Put in a plastic one And it's going to work, no doubt Will last me till life's done. But this marvelous machine With all its' wires and tubes Will never know the feeling Of love and all its moods. I've got this artificial heart That, they've sewn inside of me Love can't make it fall apart Unconditionally guaranteed. © Del “Abe” Jones 80s
