It preventshomeowners,in housesimproperlyvented, especinllymobilehomes, from complainingabouthearingbubblingsoundsin theplumbing fixture drainsin their homes. 2. It preventsthe air generatedby the aeratorblower motor from exhaustingthroughthe homeownersfixture drainsandautomaticventsin improperlyventedhomesor whentrap sealsdry out. 3. It helpskeepmethanegasodorsout of the treaffnentplant on systemsinstalledwith a pre-treatmenttank, thus eliminating home ownerscomplaintsthat their sewerplant is s':nking. You asthe installer needto be awareof the internal makeup of theAqua Safeplants. Most importantly you alsoneedto be awarethat the air generatedby the aerator blower motor MUST ESCAPE BACK TO ATMOSPIIERE. Installersmustknow thatwherepumptanksareusedtheair generatedin thewastewaterProcess mustescapeto atmosphereeitherthroughthe pump tank riser or througha ventedcap on the chlorinationunit betweenthe treatrnentplant andpumptank.

HOW THE AQUA SAIE SEWAGE TREATMENT SYSTEM FT'NCTIONS The Aqua Safe sewagetreatmentplant in many ways is a scaleddown version of larger township and municipalitysewagetreafinentplants. It employsanextended aerationactivatedsludgeprocess.Thistypeof treatmentdependsprimarily upon the useof air that is introducedby passingfrom the blower to four (4) air lines locatedaroundthe perimeterof the mixing chamber. EcologicalTankslnc., Aqua Safe plantsaremadeup of an outer mixing tank anda centersettlingchamber calleda clarifier. Raw unsettledwastewaterfrom your homeentersdirectly into themixing tankwheresimple hydraulic displacementis accomplishedby the intoduction of air which promotesthe growth of aerobic organismsin much larger amountsthan would occrr naturally. Thesebreak down the organicsolids in the wastewater. From the outer mixing tank or aerationchamber, mixed liquid entersthe coneshapedsettlingchambe!better known asthe clarifier, from the bottom. No mixing occursin this quiet zonewheresolids separatefrom the liquid andsettleto the bottom of the clarifier andre-enterthe mixing chamber. The liquid that separates from the solidsin the clarifier continueto flow upwardto the dischargepipe. The resultsof theAqua Sa/e processis a clear, odorlesseffluent discharge, which meetsor exceedsstate water qualiry standards.

OWNERMAINTENANCE CARE AIID OPERATIONINSTRUCTIONS Aqua Safehomewastewaterfeatment plantshavebeendesignedandbuilt by EcologicalTanksInc., to provide long term, reliable and cost efficient service. Our treafinentplantswill operatewith a minimum amountof attention, however, the following proceduresshouldbe performedon routine basis to insure proper plant operatlon.

DAILY: Checktheairblowertobesureitisoperating.Checkforoverheating, excessive vibrationsandunusual noises. Onceyou becomeaccustomedto the linear compressorsquiet hum it will be easyto detect.Check warninglights andaudiblealarmlocatedon controlpanelfor compressormalfitnction or in systemhigh water indication. If a visual or audible alarm is on, it is an indication of a malfunction. METHODS FOR EVALUATION OF EFFLUENT AND MIXED LIQUOR Problem

Possible Cause

Corrective Action

Offensive odor from plant and effluent

Aerator or air piping defective or leaking

Check aerator, air piping and alarm system

Murky to gray mixed liquor with semi clear effluent having a sour odor

Plant starving due to infrequent loading or oversizedpretreatment tanksresulting in totally anaerobic, low B.O.D. influent streneth

Conferwith homeownerregarding loading. Rememberit may take 4 to 12 wks for a new plant to start. Properly size & baffle pretanks as referenced in this manual.

Black colored mixed liquor & effluent having a totally septic odor void of dissolved oxygen, having an approximate PH between6.5 & 8

Plant receiving little or no aeration due to defect in aerator or air piping

Check aerator, air PiPing & alarm system

Plant loaded or dosedwith Black colored mixed liquor influent thar prohibits growth & black tinted effluent havinganoffensiveodor&ofaerobicbacteria acidic pH

Confer with owner regarding loading. Adjust PH to between 6.5 & 7.5 dose systemwith approvedbacterialadditivesto help restart microbacterial growth or pump tank for fresh start

Brown mixed liquor with a viscous, brown foam having an obnoxiousodor in the mixing zonewith semi-clear effluenthigh in T.S.S-

Developedpopulation of filamentousmicroorganisms in aerationzone due to low food to microorganismratios, the presentsof toxins or improper pH level.

conferwithhomeownerregarding properplant loading.Adjust pH to 6'5&'7'5' Doseplantsmixing zone with approvedbacterial additive'

Chocolatebrown mixed liquor with clear effluent quality having only a slight earthYsmell in mixing zone.

Plant working ProPerlywith an effluent PH between6.5 & 7 '5 and D.O. level between.5 and 2.5 mglL. BecauseYou took the time to do Yourjob right!
