April - June 2017 Newsletter
Greeting from the Andes Mountains! Escape the heat and join us in Ecuador; we are in winter and our average temperature is about 70 degrees. What have we been up to? Busy, Busy, Busy! We are very busy with our bible clubs and now we are in full swing with our visiting short-term mission teams. We have had eight teams since the beginning of June and are almost booked back to back through this November. Birthday Celebrations: We started monthly birthday celebrations in our bible clubs. We celebrate each month with a cake(s), candles, recognize each child and sing Feliz Cumpleaños. We also give each child a small wrapped gift. The children are so excited; most of them have never had a birthday cake. It’s just another way to show the love of Christ.
In other news: It all started with a kid’s bible club. In the barrio of San Jose we have a weekly kids bible club. We have bi-weekly youth and ladies bible clubs also. The ladies in our ladies bible club did not own bibles, so several months ago we gave them the same bible we gave the children, however they could not read the tiny print. In June we were able to give each one of them a large print Spanish bible; they were so excited. They are encouraged to read and study their bibles each week. Please pray for these un-churched ladies that they will understand God’s word and come to accept Him as their Savior. La Florida! The church construction is moving rapidly. We were able to start holding our kids bible club in the building, which gave us more space. There is no floor, doors, windows or electricity and they work all around us, but praise the Lord for the extra space.
God is faithful! We had been praying about how to reach more children with the Gospel. A few months ago, the Lord gave me (Gary) an idea to start four “once a month” bible clubs. The first week of June, we started three of the four “once a month” kids bible clubs in three new remote locations. We had a great turnout of kids and adults. This means that a few hundred more children and their families will be hearing the gospel and seeing the love of Christ on a regular basis. We will give more details in the next newsletter. We will still hold our regular bible clubs on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks of the month.
Prayer requests: • Our financial supporters and future supporter growth. • The children, teens and adults in our bible clubs will accept Christ this year. • 2017-2018 missions teams & missionary interns.
This is one of the new “once a month” bible clubs; the village of Ñamarín. It is located about 2 hours from Cuenca and there are 50 children in the school with only four teachers in this village.
A Message to our ministry partners: I understand this statement becomes like a novelty, but we would not be able to minister in Ecuador without those who give financially and pray! If everyone quit giving tomorrow, we would have to return to the States and abandon the work. We are so grateful to those of you who pray, invest, partner and give financially to this HIS work in Ecuador through Pate Ministries.
Interested in a mission trip or internship with Pate Ministries? I don’t know how it is possible, but our 2018 calendar is filling up fast. Contact us as soon as possible, if you want to secure a date on our 2018 or 2019 calendar.
How can we pray for you? Please feel free to call us, email us and let us know how we can pray for you or just say Hi.
Share the ministry: If after reading this newsletter you are touched and believe in the ministry, please share it on Facebook or give to someone. This will help expose what the Lord is doing in Ecuador. You never know how the Lord will use it to speak to someone’s heart.
Blessings, Gary & Dena
