Body: A. Main point I: Ao Dai has had a short history relative to the country and people of Vietnam. It was influenced by imperial Chinese grab of the Qing dynasty, known as Qipao. . Unlike its cousin, the qipao which is a tight fitted dress with slits on both sides, Ao Dai is a looser tunix which even in its tight-fitting form is still left wide and flowing at the bottom. Moreover, the slits of the Ao Dai extend above the waistline, revealing a slight glimpse of the sides of the midriff. • Sub-point I: The origin of Ao Dai is Ao Tu Than. It was the traditional dress of Northern women. Ao Tu Than was made of five parts: two flaps sewn together in the back, two flaps sewn together in the front, and a fifth flap hidden underneath the front main flap. After many years, Ao Tu Than makes some difficulties for women in wearing or working. They began thinking the new traditional clothes that fit to their work and are comfortable to move in. As the result, Ao Dai gradually appeared. • Sub-point II: Farly version of Ao Dai date back to 1744 when the king Vu Vuong of Nguyen Dynasty decreed both men and women should wear an ensemble of trousers and a gown that buttoned down the front. Ao Dai at that time was wider and simpler than today. Originally, Ao Dai was tailored with four panels tow of which were tied in back. In 1930, Ao Dai as we know now appeared. Influenced by Europeanization wave in 1935, Le Mur Nguyen Cat Tuong, Vietnamese fashion designer modernized Ao Dai. He lengthened the top to reach the floor,

fitted the bodice to the curves for the body and then moved the buttons form the front to an opening the shoulder and side seam. From 1934 to 1945, the traditional Ao Dai was restored. Two Saigon tailors that had a large influence on the development of Ao Dai are Tran Kim from Thiet Lap Tailors and Dung from Dung Tailors. They produced the gown with raglan sleeves which created a diagonal seam running from the collar to the underarm. From 1958 to the beginning of 1959, Madame Ngo Dinh Nhu led the movement of low-necked. From the early 1970 to 1975, it was the period of the mini and hippy Ao Dai that was loosely worn with tights and flares till year 1989. Since 1975, the tradition returned and displayed its beauty to the newtimes. At that time, people encouraged schoolgirls to wear the white Ao Dai to school. B. Main Point II: Ao Dai symbolize to Vietnames women ‘s beauty. Today, it has been becoming more and more popular. There are plentiful of designs, meterials and colors. Velvet, silk, satin tapta Ao Dai, embroidered painter or printer with flowers pattern have been creating more and more exquisite and elegant thus it has become standard outfit for many office workers and hotel staff. Ao Dai covers the whole body, it is cool to wear. Synthetic fabrics are preferred because they do not crush and are quick drying, making the Ao Dai a practical uniform in daily life. • Sub-point I: Ao Dai was the national symbol of Vietnam. With Vietnamese, it has been always synonymous with their grace and beauty. Over many years in Vietnam‘s history, it still kept its symbolism and image in the hearts of all Vietnamese. Ao Dai has been perfected step by step to overcome all ages and time to reach with all people not only in our country but also in the world. With Vietnamese, rich or poor, old or young, Ao Dai is always their favorite choice in most special occasions. • Sub-point II: For many years, the image of graceful school girls in their white Ao Dai went into poems or even to the music of many Vietnamese poets and musicans. It is Ao Dai that is their endless stream of emotion. Ao Dai is an elegant, demure, sand sexy garment that suitable for people of all ages. Ao Dai covers everything bit its thin fabric hides nothing. Ao Dai is charming and so sexy that it made visitors to Vietnam never forget. When you see a girl wearing Ao Dai, you should know that she is from Vietnam. III.
