A FAST BREAK INTO BASKETBALL By Lindsay Auld For Andrew Gordon, playing college basketball was not always the goal. Growing up the 6-foot-9 sophomore saw his future in football. Never did he think that his career path would lead into playing basketball at the Division I level. “I always thought it was going to be football,” Gordon said. “I have played football my whole life. Basketball was never an idea. It was only during his senior year of high school that the 255-pound forward started his basketball career. “It wasn’t a personal choice; I didn’t go out of my way to pick basketball.” Gordon said. “My brother was the mascot for the football team, and he said that I had to play basketball my senior year, so I decided to do that, and it just took off from there.

With the support of his family, the Clearwater, Florida, native is happy with his decision. “What inspires me is my family,” Gordon said. “I have a lot of people rooting for me back home, and I don’t want to let them down. That is what keeps me going every day. I just know I have my family watching me, and I am one of the first ones to do this so that gets me up out of bed every day.” The decision to play basketball landed Gordon a spot on the WVU basketball roster. Although he never saw basketball in his future, he continues to make the best of his career.
