Answer the following questions on a separate piece of paper.

10 points

1. Analyze the following sources. Explain the potential benefits and dangers of each. Explain why some may be better than others—which do you think are the most trustworthy? Which are the most persuasive? Which are the easiest to use? Which are very general, and which are more specific? - A Fox News report on illegal immigration with facts and figures, interviews with experts, and an overview of our current laws and policies. - A Fox News segment by Glenn Beck, a conservative, political radio host, about how US immigration policies are damaging the country - A Fox News report on a new study that shows more immigrants are coming illegally than was once thought. - A Fox News “life” segment that examines the harsh reality of living illegally in America. Cameras follow a young immigrant mother and child as they chase their dreams and avoid the authorities, and deal with problems most Americans can’t imagine. 2. All three of the following sources deal with the same study/scientific report. Which source would you use? Explain why you chose your answer. a) A Time Magazine article about several new advances in genetic medicine (using our knowledge of genes and DNA to treat or prevent disease). It mentions a new study that you could use in your essay. b) The original study that you found by looking at the sources of the Time article. c) An opinion essay arguing against genetic medicine. It mentions the same new study, saying that it demonstrates how we’re “going too far” in that field.
