Analysis of NITIE -2003 NITIE has shown the same pattern this year. Questions based on Limits, Matrices & Complex no., Fourier and Laplace, convergence and divergence, definite integral etc which are not part of most of the MBA entrance tests made up more than 90 % of mathematics section. The message is quite clear that one should be well conversant with engineering subjects Time: Two and half hours Area No. of Questions Marks General awareness English Reasoning ability Quantitative aptitude Engineering & technology Total

Sectional Break – Up: Section 1: General Awareness: This section was of an average+ difficulty level. Some of the questions were very tough; most of the questions were related to the economic terminology and current affairs. Optimum Score in this section is around 25+
Section 2: VA and RC Sr. no Area Tested
No. of Difficulty Questions Level 1. Verbal Ability 45 Easy 2. Reading Comprehension 15 Average Verbal Ability section contained questions on usage, jumbled sentences, synonyms, antonyms, sentence corrections, fill in the blanks, error correction and one passage consisting of 10 fill in the blanks type . There were 3 reading comprehension passages. The section was easy except only 1 passage was of average+ difficulty level. Optimum Score in this section is around 30+ Section 3 : Reasoning Ability : This section was average + difficulty level and very lengthy. Scoring was possible in analytical reasoning questions but it was time consuming. Critical reasoning questions were lengthy and distributed through out the section. Optimum Score in this section is around 22+ Section 4 : Quantitative Ability: This section was as similar as expected. Entire section was the replica of the last year's QA section. It was difficult, not because the questions were difficult, but because the questions were from higher mathematics consisting of areas limits, continuity, Matrices, Complex Nos., Convergence, Divergence ,Definite Integrals, Fourier , Laplace. There were hardly 5 to 6 questions from elementary arithmetic and algebra, which was the same as the last year's paper. Bottomline was more emphasis on Engineering Mathematics. Optimum Score in this section is around 18+
Section 5: Engineering & technology : This section comprises of basic questions from all engineering areas. This section was easy, a major shift from last year’s paper. Optimum Score in this section is around 13+ Overall the paper was of average+ difficulty level. A candidate scoring 110+ can expect a call.
