March 6, 2019 Dear Selection Committee, I am pleased to write a letter of recommendation for Emily Trujillo who is seeking employment in BVSD. I have known Emily for 7 months and I enthusiastically support her as she works to become a highly effective educator. She is energetic, well-organized, a fast-learner, collaborates with her team members, and has demonstrated leadership skills. I have served as her mentor and cooperating teacher while she worked with first graders in the 2018-2019 school year. During this time, I have watched Emily develop into a conscientious teacher that cares deeply about her students’ success. Emily has been immersed in the art of teaching 1st grade reading using a guided reading approach that addresses differentiation for every child while including all the fundamental components of reading instruction. I have also worked closely with her to teach writing using a writer’s workshop model. Emily executes small group instruction in math with grace and efficiency while meeting the diverse learning needs of her students. I have watched her embrace the learning process and challenge herself. She takes advice and suggestions seriously and acts upon them. She takes responsibility for her learning and always comes prepared with questions and ideas. I have been impressed with her integrity, her professionalism, and her willingness to improve. She is also skilled in the practice of reflection. She knows the value and importance of reflection and builds the time to do so within her schedule. Then she takes her reflections fullcircle and makes changes in her instruction and shares her insights with colleagues. She has developed into an effective teacher and I can’t wait to see how much she learns and grows with additional learning opportunities. Every day, Emily brings her love of learning, her knowledge of early childhood development, and her desire to constantly improve to her groups of students. I have complete confidence that she would bring the same level of engagement and focus to any teaching position. Emily has been well-trained and supported as a new teacher. She will be a dedicated colleague in any school. I hope that your school has the chance to further Emily’s teaching potential. I recommend her very highly and without reservation. Please contact me if you need any further information. Sincerely, Alison Coatman 1st Grade Teacher Kruse Elementary 970-488-5625
