Creative Lives Lebanese photographer Roger Moukarzel and American writer Sierra Prasada teamed up to produce this visually appealing book – the first of its kind – that focuses on Lebanon’s most creative minds. The small nation’s talented artists, actors, singers, dancers, musicians, architects, fashion designers and more are featured in page after page of high-gloss, brilliant photographs, as seen through Moukarzel’s very personal lens. In her text, Prasada illuminates the reader with compelling stories about each of these “creative lives,” tracing their backgrounds and their rise to fame, the whole interspersed with deeply personal vignettes. Some of the people profiled include Zuhair Murad, Rabih Kayrouz, Nadine Labaki, Bernard Khoury, Nada Debs and Nabil Gholam.

Four Florida Moderns Alberto Alfonso, René González, Chad Oppenheim and Guy Peterson – the Florida Four – are making a mark for themselves in contemporary architectural circles, infusing modernist traditions with their own flair. Practitioners of modernism in Florida – or, more accurately, tropical modernism – the four are producing noteworthy works that display their commitment to distinctive regionalism. This book, by esteemed writer Saxon Henry, is the first to showcase their rich and varied repertoires. From airports, medical facilities and museums to open-air chapels, waterfront homes and condominium complexes, their designs are fascinating for both their modernist ideals and their dramatically different interpretations of it. Four Florida Moderns holds more than 300 full-color photographs, offering a survey of work by each of the architects. Available at Virgin Megastore.

My Favorite Dress With a foreword by the International Herald Tribune’s fashion editor Suzy Menkes, and photos of glorious dresses in high, vibrant colors, My Favorite Dress is a veritable treat for fashion lovers, describing as it does each designer’s best-loved dress. Alber Elbaz, for example, points to a gray 2002 Lanvin ballerina dress as his most beloved, while Angela Missoni singles out a colorful V-neck gown with shimmering Swarovski crystals from 2000 as her own personal favorite. Other designers featured include Vivienne Westwood, Zandra Rhodes, Elie Saab, Catherine Malandrino, Issey Miyake, Donna Karan, Antonio Berardi and many more. The book is based on an exhibit of the same name that took place at London’s Fashion and Textile Museum.
