What is Dual Credit?

Agreement between Lonestar College and Humble ISD to provide students with the opportunity to take college courses while still in high school and earn both college credit and high school credit simultaneously.

Dual Credit Facts • Dual credit enrollment courses may be taken at the high school as part of the students regular class schedule or in some cases at one of the Lonestar campuses. • Pre-Requisite: Must successfully pass English 2 and all parts of the TAKS test.

Dual Credit Facts Difference between AP and AP Dual Credit • Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered to students who wish to pursue college level studies while in high school. In addition to receiving high school credit, students may receive college credit only if they take the AP exam and score a 3 or higher on the exam. AP courses and exams do not qualify as dual credit. • AP Dual credit are courses offered to students who have taken the ASSET test, qualify to register with Kingwood college and paid tuition directly to Kingwood college to receive dual credit. . If you have not taken the necessary test, registered with Kingwood college or have not paid tuition you are not considered a dual credit student.

Dual Credit Procedures Now that you have expressed interest in taking a dual credit course, you must apply online with Lonestar College. 1. Go to https://webapps1.lonestar.edu/soap/ 2. When you have completed the application, PRINT the completion of application page and bring it to Mrs. Diaz in the registrar’s office. Without that page, you will not be able to sign up for testing. 3. Sign up for testing with Mrs. Diaz. The tests will be on Lonestar’s campus, not AHS.

Dual Credit Procedures 4. Bring test scores back to Mrs. Diaz so she can give you the exceptional admissions form. 5. Return exceptional admissions form to Mrs. Diaz. 6. A bill will be sent to your home address Or you may view it in MyRecords. 7. Tuition and fees must be paid BEFORE the beginning of the semester.
