Video games In this day and age, video games are gaining in popularity especially among youngsters. Some people believe that they are wholesome leisure activity while others argue for the negative influences they can have on players. From a personal perspective, although I agree that video games sometimes have negative impacts on people, I suppose that the benefits have far outweighed the drawbacks. On the one hand, it is obvious that this means of entertainment has several disastrous consequences which shouldn’t be ignored. To begin with, playing video games are highly addictive because the players are constantly given scores, new targets and frequent rewards to keep on playing. This addition may have a wide range of negative effects such as poor academic performance, sleep deprivation, aggressive behaviors, etc. Additionally, getting addicted to video games also does great harm to our well-being. These players are likely to get shortsightedness and heart-related problems due to excessive exposure to flickering screens. Similarly, the obesity level is increasing rapidly partly due to the sedentary life of gamers without proper exercises to strengthen their muscles. On the other hand, it is undeniable that video games bring considerable entertaining and educational benefits. First and foremost, video games are considered to be highly entertaining because players are transported to visual worlds which are certainly more exciting and thrilling than normal hobbies. In particular, players can play the role of various characters such as princes, crimes, policies, heroes, etc to understand their lifestyle and ways of thinking. It is just like a short escape from the stress and strain of their daily life to find happiness and a peace of mind. From an academic perspective, video games are an enormous source of learning in the Industry 4.0 era. A wealth of modern educational institutions has incorporated video games as teaching methodology to stimulate student’s interest and interaction. Getting involved in computer games can help people improve their IT skills on installing a program, using the key board professionally, etc. In addition, people memories can be improved significantly as users are required to remember the instructions that are only given at the beginning of the games. In other worlds, our interpersonal skills such as problem solving, decision making, logical thinking, etc can be enhanced dramatically because players can develop long term abilities to evaluate the possibilities of an option to beat their rivals in games. All things considered, there is no doubt in my mind that despite some negative impacts, video games still are beneficial to its players in many ways. It depends on the players to make us of video games responsibly and effectively without letting it take control of our life.
