Advanced Language Teaching and Methodology This course is aimed at non-native English teachers and teacher trainers in secondary and university sector education. The course enables participants to: Gain confidence in and improve their use of the English language Reflect critically on current language teaching methodology and stimulate continuing professional development. Share ideas and promote greater self-awareness as teachers. Explore and evaluate materials and resources and expand the range of classroom activities available to the teacher. The course employs an extensive range of resources including CALL, ELT methodology materials as well as general English books, tapes and videos. Current language teaching methodology will reflect participants’ classroom practice. We take a ‘loop input’ and heuristic approach to these courses. All sessions contribute towards both language learning and pedagogy. The course content will vary according to the particular needs, teaching contexts and interests of the group. However, there are standard components that are taught on every course. These are: Advanced language analysis and input EAP and ESP Testing Needs analysis and syllabus design Lesson observations Project work Current ELT methodology Material evaluation and selection. We ask all participants to complete a detailed pre-course needs analysis.
