PLAYSCRIPT THE WISE HARE The dark forest is too quiet. There is not even a single sound heard except the sound of frog croaking. (A girl passed by the stage, searching for her cat) but to her surprise, she cannot find anyone there. None of the animals is searching for foods, not even playing with their friends. Hurm.. I wonder, what is going on? CHARACTERS •

Narrator



Lion The biggest and strongest lion in the forest. He likes to eat other animals. He has brawn but no brain



Deer One of the animals in the forest and a friend of Hare.



Tiger One of the animals in the forest and a friend of Hare.



Hare One of the animals in the forest. Small and weak, but intelligent. He managed to defeat the Lion at the end.

ACT 1 (forest) Narrator: Once upon a time, there lived a very big and strong lion. Everybody called him “The King of the Jungle”. He loves to chase and kill the animals in the forest. (Lion chased an animal and kill it CL-DC). All the animals in the forest are scared of him. All of them except me!! (giggle) (DL) Children, do you want to know why I am not afraid of him? (point to the Lion) It is because I know the Lion’s biggest fear but I won’t tell you..No, No, No..(smile sarcastically) Lion: I am a big and strong lion. I will eat all the animals in this big Forest, hahahahaha…. (Glance and try to scare the audience) Narrator: The animals were very worried. They held a meeting. All the animals who lived in the forest came to the meeting. They wanted to discuss the problem before the lion eat them up. Deer: What shall we do? (CC) Hare: What shall we do? (CC) Tiger: I know what we should do!! (smile sarcastically and tapping his finger) (CC) Deer: What is that? Come on, tell me faster!! (curiously). I want to know!! (Freeze Frame)

Tiger: (Narrator patted Tiger - unfreeze) How about this? Urmm..Let’s scared him by threaten him. Deer: That’s a good idea!! But I still don’t get it (asking curiously again). What is threaten anyway? Tiger: Threaten means you want to scare someone by telling his biggest secret to everyone. Children, do you get it? Can you please spell threaten together with me? T.H.R.E.A.T.E.N Hare: That is not a good idea, but we don’t have any other choices. Ok then, I’ll agree. Let’s see...if anyone else agrees with me. Children, can you please raise up your hand if you want to know what the Lion’s secret is. Narrator: Wait! I’m not agree at all. What if The Lion found out about our plan? Tiger, Deer and Hare: He will not find out if you don’t tell him!! SSHH (putting their fingers on the lip-first, to the narrator and then continuously signing the audience to keep it as a secret). ACT 2(at the lion’s place) Narrator: Soon, all the animals agree with the tiger (they nodded their heads and raised their hands up). They do not have any choices left because they are scared with the Lion so the next day, they make a big plan for him. (The lion was lying down -CC, resting, when the Hare, the Deer and the Tiger come- CR - CC) Lion: GRRR, what do you want? Hare: (looking at Deer) You told him.. Deer: Ermm..hurmm..(afraid, looking at the Tiger) Tiger, it is better if you told him. Hare (at the same time, sneak behind the Lion and put a CCTV there) Tiger: Err, we have a suggestion for you to consider. All of the animals have agree that we will send one animal for you to eat every day. But you must not kill other animals. Will you agree? Lion: Hurrmm (thinking), it is a good idea as I could rest for the whole day because I don’t have to hunt. Okay, I agree. But I will not forgive any of you if I do not get my prey every day!! (roar) Hare, Deer and Tiger: Okay-okay (afraid). Thank you strong Lion! (exit UL) ACT 3 ( In the forest, near a well) Narrator: So each day, one by one animal takes their turn to look at the CCTV’s camera. Then one day, it was the Hare’s turn. (DR)

Deer: My friend Hare, I am bored waiting here every day. When will The Lion doing something funny? (CC) Tiger: If only I am a bit stronger and bigger than the lion, I would have help every one here (CC). I would have killed the lion and we shall live in peace again (full Of spirit)(DL). But, I’m nothing compared to him (sad -CC). Hare: Huhuhu (sad)(CC). Why am I so small and weak? I can’t beat the Lion but I don’t want to be his food too. Deer: Wait a minute!! (Freeze Frame). Come on everyone, take a look here. The Lion is..is..is saying “Mirror, mirror, who is the most handsome animal in the forest?” (Mirroring with the narrator) Tiger: What? Is it true? Hare: I got an idea!! (walk to the well and peeked in it and makes a surprise action- DR).I can see myself in the bottom of the well!! (makes a thinking action and got an idea action)I know what to do! I must go to the big Lion! (confidently) (The hare exit the stage- CL) ACT 3 (at the lion’s place) (The lion sit at the centre of the stage- CC, the hare comes-CL and greet the lion) Lion: (Roar) Why are you late? (angry). I’m tired waiting for you!! Hare: (Afraid) I’m sorry Mr. Lion, but on my way here, I met another lion, he told me that he is the biggest, strongest and most handsome lion on the earth. But I told him that he is wrong!! Lion: How dare he say that! (furious, standing up) Hare: Yes, he really said that! And he even said that he wanted to beat you!! Lion: (Furious) Is that so? I will teach this lion a lesson! Take me to him, I’ll kill him! Hare: Right away sir! (The lion and the hare exit the stage-CL) ACT 4 (in the forest, near the well) Narrator: So the hare took the lion to the well. (DR) Lion: (Roar) Where is he? Where is he? (angry)(CL-CC-CL-CC) Hare: (CL)(pointing to the well) He’s in there big lion. I’m afraid of him and I don’t want him to see me, you go on ahead. Narrator: The mighty lion peeped in the well, and then he saw his own reflection at the bottom of the well. But he thought that the reflection is another Lion. (The Lion peeped in the well and gave a roar, then make an action like the reflection like the reflection roaring back at him)

Lion: Who are you? You dare roar back at me? (angry)(DC) I’m going to show you that I am stronger and bigger than you and I will eat you up! (jumped into the well. Show some drowning actions to the audience) Help me!, help me! (drowned) Aaaaaaaaaaaa……. Narrator: When the wise Hare saw what happened to the mighty lion, he ran back happily to his friends. (exit CL, then enter again to CC) (deer and tiger enter the stage) Hare: The big lion is died, we are safe! Yeah! Tiger and Deer: Is that true? (excited) Hare: Yeah, it’s true!! No doubt about it!! (proud) Tiger: NO,NO, NO, I don’t believe in you!! Hare: Yes, it’s true!! Tiger: No, it isn’t!! Hare: Yes, it’s true!! Tiger: No, it isn’t!! Deer: Come on, can you two please stop fighting in front of these kids? Children, do you agree with me? Maybe we should tell Tiger that the mighty Lion has already dead? Narrator: Yes kids, please raise up your hand if you saw the Lion is already rest in peace..hehehe..ok, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5..all, agree with me!! Tiger: So, it’s true? The Lion is dead? Yahoo!! Give me 5!! (Deer, Tiger and Hare jump happily) Deer: You are so clever Hare! Tiger: You save our lives! Thank you! Deer and Tiger: Thank you so much wise Hare!! Hare: You guys are most welcome (grinning)
