Activities and Programme Ideas

Issue One

Xtra – December 2008

Hi Everyone!!

Page 1: General Information

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Marijke Balaam and I am the Assistant District Commissioner Activities (ADC) for Bishops Stortford and District. I am also an Assistant Explorer Scout leader in the District for Voyager ESU. I have been involved in Scouting pretty much since I was born. Some of the best times of my life have come from Scouting, both as a Scout and as a Leader.

Page 2: Beavers

My role is to not only help promote different activities that are happening within the County and District, but to also help you all with programme ideas, which is where this newsletter Xtra comes in. The other part of my role is to help leaders with the Scout Associations Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR). POR defines the structure of Scouting in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man and provides information about its management and training. The full update POR can be found using this link:

http://www.scouts.org.uk/support_resource_view.php?support_resource_id=71 I have a hard copy of the activities section of POR so if you need to know anything at all, however silly you may think it is please don’t hesitate to contact me!! It may turn out to be very important. I hope you all find this newsletter Xtra useful and put some of the ideas to the test, please tell me of any ideas you come up with that you think other people may not have tried and I can incorporate them into it. Many Thanks for reading this and I look forward to either meeting or hearing from you soon Marijke Balaam ADC Activities
