During this time, it has grown to become one of the most significant financial and cultural capitals of the world. It has experienced plague, devastating fire, civil war, aerial bombardment and terrorist attacks. Big Ben & Houses of Parliament ( London Icon and UK Seat of Government ) Big Ben is the international icon of London, the 316 foot clock tower was completed in 1858. Big Ben itself is the name of the 14 ton bell that chimes. The original bell cracked in October 1857. Big Ben is an integral part of Westminster Palace, more commonly known as the Houses of Parliament - the seat of UK government. The light above Big Ben is illuminated when Parliament is sitting. UK residents can arrange a tour and climb the clock tower through their local Member of Parliament. The Houses of Parliament contains more than 1,000 rooms and 2 miles of corridors. London eye Since opening in March 2000 The London Eye has become an iconic landmark and a symbol of modern Britain. The London Eye is the UK’s most popular paid for visitor attraction, visited by over 3.5 million people a year. The London Eye is the vision of David Marks and Julia Barfield, a husband and wife architect team. The wheel design was used as a metaphor for the end of the 20th century, and time turning into the new millennium. I saw London eye and I took a picrures. Next time I promised myselfe that I must go upstairs and see the London with Londons eye!

Heroes of British history Here are a few heroes from British history, starting with: William Shakespeare 26 April 1564 – 23 April 1616 wrote some of the best poetry and plays ever Winston Churchill 30th November, 1874 -1965 , possibly Britain's greatest Prime Minister. He led Britain to victory in World War Two Queen Boadicea, who led the British in a rebellion against the Roman empire in 60 AD Captain Scott, who led a failed attempt to reach the South Pole. Tragically, he and all his men died there in 1912

Charles Darwin, 1809- 1882 whose theory of evolution changed the world in 1859 when he published Origin of Species Emmilene Pankhurst, was born Emmeline Goulden in Manchester on July 4, 1858. with her Suffragettes, helped women get the right to vote in the early 20th century Isaac Newton 1643 - 1727 discovered many of the basic rules of physics which we use today, including the idea of gravity Jane Austen She was born on December 16, 1775, at Steventon Rectory in Hampshire. She wrote some of the best novels of the 19th century, and was important in getting women recognised as good authors Walter Raleigh 1554- 1618 was an explorer in the 16th and 17th centuries. He brought the potato to England. No Raleigh, no chips! Florence Nightingale, 1820-1910who helped improve the standard of hospitals in Britain
