Pallet Loop Conveyor for Baggage Claim
Turn left & turn right, any curve is possible
Operating at the Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, Banda Aceh
On The Restricted Air Side
THE DESIGN PRINCIPLE: A pallet loop conveyor is designed to run in a continuously (endless) loop. It is a versatile baggage conveyor consisting of crescent‐shaped pallets linked together to form an endless conveying surface. This type of conveyor is equally suitable for baggage claim and baggage make‐up functions in medium density airport terminals. The conveyor is flexible and can be lay‐out in any formation (Tee, EL or O even U formation) depending on the building layout and service requirement. THE ELASTOMERE PALLET The crescent pallets are accurately timber molded in black rubber elastomer panel. It is finished rough, flat and true with all securing holes molded‐in for complete interchangeability. Each panel is 25MM thick, with extremely high resistance against wear and tear. Supported live weight on the conveying system is 100kg per linear meter without undue deflection. The standard width of each pallet is + 1000MM with effective usable width of 865MM. Each pallet is linked together to another to provide a continuous chain to complete the endless loop and conveying surface. The linkages are manufactured to a standard pitch with self‐aligning joint. At the front end of the linkage is a centering wheel assembly to guide the carriage around the pre‐formed track‐way. APPEARANCE / PANELLING: All visible trims are designed in brush finish #4 stainless steel for the public‐side and powder coated mild steel plate for the air‐side area. The centre of the carrousel is provided with paneling up‐stand extending vertically about 190MM above the pallet top surface. These up‐stands form a guard to prevent baggage spilling into the center of the loop, which called the infill. FRAME WORK The pallet frame work is manufactured in 2400 MM modules of mild steel sections and pressings. The centre guide rails and wheel frames are bolted to cross members, which in turn are supported and leveled on adjustable screw legs. The frames are finished either with galvanizing, powder coating or cadmium plating.
DRIVE The pallet loop is driven by caterpillar driving method, whereby an endless chain with (double) lugs drive on the underside of each carriage. The caterpillar chain has a regular precision transmission and is tensioned between chain sprockets. The geared driven motor has a direct mounted shaft into the sprocket and is selected for efficiency, reliability and low noise characteristics. The motor is 380 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 3 phase, 4 pole totally enclosed units and engineered for specified conveyor length and load. The motor is selected from reputable manufacturers for on‐going reliability, ease of maintenance and availability for parts and service. Protection is provided to prevent the system from shocking start and also to protect the motor from over current. 150 kg/m (static) and max. 100 kg/m (dynamic) It is designed to withstand a 35kg drop load from a height of 400MM Floor mounted caterpillar drive type Geared hollow shaft motor from reputable manufacturer with proper technical representative • Transistor Inverter (Speed Variable) • Overload trip protection 0.5 M/sec (= 30 M/min) adjustable speed and soft started 25 MM thick crescent pallet, a sandwich of timber‐rubber elastomer panel Overall width + 1000MM with 1500MM turning radius (curve) Any length depending on customer requirement Any lay‐out formation depending on customer requirement approx. 865 mm Stainless steel no.4 brush finish, and powder coated mild steel. Middle upstand infill 190 MM above the pallet surface POSSIBLE LOOP FORMATIONS: The design makes it possible to put the pallet loop in any formation, depending on service requirements. Either Tee or EL or U or O formation is feasible, as shown in the layout. The moving direction should be confirmed at earliest stage. Both clock‐wise and counter‐clock‐wise moving direction is possible. The best turning radius for the loop is 1500MM calculated from the conveyor centerline.
